Which companies sponsor visas for mental health professionals in Wisconsin?
The most active sponsors in Wisconsin include UW Health, Froedtert Health, Advocate Aurora Health, Rogers Behavioral Health, and community mental health organizations such as Journey Mental Health Center in Madison. Federally Qualified Health Centers throughout rural Wisconsin also sponsor international mental health clinicians, particularly for underserved areas where recruitment is competitive.
Which visa types are most common for mental health roles in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the primary visa for licensed mental health professionals in Wisconsin, including psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, and licensed professional counselors, as these roles typically meet the specialty occupation requirement. The J-1 visa is also used for clinical training placements. Some employers, particularly nonprofits and academic medical centers, qualify as cap-exempt H-1B sponsors, which avoids the annual lottery.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most mental health sponsorship jobs?
Madison and Milwaukee account for the majority of mental health sponsorship opportunities in Wisconsin. Madison's concentration of UW Health facilities and the University of Wisconsin system drives consistent demand. Milwaukee is home to Froedtert, Rogers Behavioral Health, and Advocate Aurora. Green Bay and Appleton are growing markets, and rural areas often offer sponsorship through community health programs targeting workforce shortages.
How to find mental health visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship and lets you filter mental health roles by state, so you can browse Wisconsin openings from employers who have indicated willingness to sponsor. This is more efficient than sifting through general job boards where sponsorship status is rarely clear. Creating a profile also helps you track which Wisconsin employers have active listings in your clinical specialty.
Are there state-specific considerations for mental health professionals seeking sponsorship in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin requires independent licensure for clinical practice, so international candidates should verify their credentials are eligible for Wisconsin state licensure before accepting a sponsored offer. The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services handles licensure for psychologists, counselors, and social workers. UW-Madison's training pipeline also means some positions are structured around clinical training with immigration implications worth clarifying with an attorney.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mental health jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
