Target hospital systems and managed care organizations
Large hospital networks and managed care organizations sponsor Care Navigators far more consistently than smaller clinics. These employers have dedicated HR and legal infrastructure to handle H-1B petitions and do so regularly for clinical and care coordination roles.
Confirm the degree requirement is explicit in the job posting
H-1B sponsorship requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation. The job posting must explicitly require a bachelor's degree in a specific field like social work or nursing, not just prefer one. Vague language can undermine the petition.
Lead with your clinical licensure and certifications
Credentials like CCM (Certified Case Manager) or RN licensure strengthen your sponsorship case by reinforcing the specialized nature of the role. Employers also see licensed candidates as lower-risk hires, which makes initiating the petition process easier.
Apply during open enrollment hiring cycles
Health systems ramp up Care Navigator hiring around Q4 and Q1 as budgets reset and patient volume projections are finalized. Applying during these windows gives you better access to roles with active headcount approvals and sponsorship budget already allocated.
Understand the H-1B cap and lottery timing
Most Care Navigator positions at for-profit employers are subject to the H-1B annual cap and lottery. Registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. Nonprofit hospitals and university health systems are often cap-exempt, offering a faster and more reliable sponsorship path.
Be ready to explain how your degree maps to the role
USCIS reviewers assess whether your specific degree field relates directly to Care Navigator duties. A social work, nursing, or public health degree maps cleanly. An unrelated degree may require a detailed employer letter explaining the connection, so prepare for that conversation early.

Find Care Navigator JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Can a Care Navigator role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, but the position must meet the specialty occupation standard, meaning it requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field like social work, nursing, or health administration. Roles where any general degree satisfies the requirement are harder to petition successfully. Hospital systems and managed care organizations tend to structure these postings with the specificity USCIS expects, making them stronger sponsorship candidates.
What degree do I need for a sponsored Care Navigator position?
Most sponsored Care Navigator roles require a bachelor's degree in social work (BSW), nursing (BSN), public health, psychology, or a closely related health sciences field. A master's in social work (MSW) strengthens your candidacy and can support higher-level positions. Degrees in unrelated fields are rarely sufficient on their own, though relevant clinical licensure or certifications can help supplement your academic background.
Are nonprofit hospitals better for Care Navigator sponsorship than for-profit employers?
Generally, yes. Nonprofit hospitals and university health systems are frequently cap-exempt under the H-1B program, meaning they can file petitions year-round without waiting for the annual lottery. For-profit employers must go through the cap and lottery process, with an October 1 start date at the earliest. If you're on a tight timeline, cap-exempt employers offer a meaningfully faster path to authorized employment.
How competitive is H-1B approval for Care Navigator roles?
Approval rates depend heavily on how the employer documents the specialty occupation requirement. Well-drafted petitions from experienced immigration counsel at large health systems tend to fare well. The main risk is USCIS questioning whether the role truly requires a degree in a specific field. Roles with clinical licensure requirements, like those requiring an RN or LCSW, present a cleaner case and face fewer requests for evidence.
Where can I find Care Navigator jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the best place to search for Care Navigator roles with confirmed visa sponsorship. Standard job boards don't filter by sponsorship willingness, so you end up applying to employers who won't consider international candidates. Migrate Mate focuses specifically on sponsoring employers, which saves significant time and helps you direct your applications where they're likely to go somewhere.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Care Navigator jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
