How to Get Visa Sponsorship as an Event Marketing Specialist
Target employers with established event programs
Large tech companies, hospitality groups, and consumer brands run recurring conferences, product launches, and activations. These employers have HR infrastructure for sponsorship and consistent demand for experienced event marketing talent year-round.
Frame your degree as a specialty occupation match
H-1B eligibility requires a specific degree connection to the role. A bachelor's in marketing, communications, public relations, or business administration directly supports event marketing as a specialty occupation under USCIS guidelines.
Quantify campaign scale and budget ownership
Sponsoring employers need to justify the complexity of your role. Highlighting large attendee counts, multi-city activations, or significant vendor coordination demonstrates the level of expertise that supports a specialty occupation determination.
Apply to companies that file LCAs for your job title
The Department of Labor's public LCA disclosure data shows which employers have sponsored Event Marketing Specialist roles before. Prior filings signal that a company understands the process and is willing to repeat it.
Consider contract-to-hire roles at agencies
Experiential marketing and event agencies frequently sponsor skilled candidates after a contract period. Agency roles expose you to multiple client brands, building a stronger portfolio that supports future sponsorship applications at in-house employers.
Browse verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters event marketing roles by visa sponsorship availability, saving time you'd otherwise spend cold-applying to companies that won't sponsor. Focus your effort on employers already open to international candidates.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does an Event Marketing Specialist role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, but only when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field like marketing, communications, or business. Roles where any degree satisfies the requirement, regardless of field, are harder to defend as a specialty occupation. Senior or strategy-heavy positions with clear degree requirements have the strongest cases.
Which employers are most likely to sponsor an Event Marketing Specialist?
Tech companies running annual user conferences, hospitality and entertainment brands managing large-scale activations, and global consumer goods companies with dedicated field marketing teams sponsor most consistently. Experiential marketing agencies also sponsor regularly. You can browse verified sponsoring employers for this role on Migrate Mate.
Can I qualify for an H-1B as an Event Marketing Specialist without a marketing degree?
Possibly. USCIS allows three years of specialized work experience to substitute for one year of a bachelor's degree. A degree in a closely related field like communications, public relations, or business can also work. What matters is that your education connects directly to the duties in the job description.
Is the O-1A visa a realistic option for experienced event marketers?
It can be, particularly for professionals with nationally recognized campaigns, industry awards, published work, or a history of speaking at major marketing conferences. The O-1A requires demonstrating extraordinary ability through verifiable criteria. It is petition-based with no lottery, which makes it an attractive alternative for those who can document a strong record of achievement.
How does the H-1B lottery affect my chances of getting sponsored as an Event Marketing Specialist?
H-1B sponsorship for this role is subject to the annual cap and lottery, which selects roughly 25 to 30 percent of registrations in a typical year. Employers file in March for an October start date. Australian citizens can bypass the lottery entirely using the E-3 visa, which has the same specialty occupation requirements but no cap or lottery.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Event Marketing Specialist jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
