Target employers with established visa programs
Large logistics, energy, and infrastructure companies sponsor Field Operations Coordinators far more often than small contractors. Focus your search on companies with dedicated HR and immigration teams, as they already have the infrastructure to file petitions efficiently.
Lead with your degree-to-role alignment
H-1B eligibility requires that your degree directly relates to the operations coordinator role. Degrees in supply chain management, industrial engineering, or business operations are strong matches. Highlight this alignment explicitly in your resume and cover letter to reduce employer hesitation.
Understand how field versus office roles are evaluated
Roles labeled 'field' can raise USCIS specialty occupation questions if duties appear too generalist. Frame your experience around technical, analytical, or systems-based responsibilities, not just physical site coordination, to strengthen the specialty occupation argument in your petition.
Get LCA details confirmed before accepting an offer
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application certifying your work location and prevailing wage before the visa petition proceeds. If you're regularly rotating between sites, confirm how the employer plans to handle multi-location LCA compliance before you sign anything.
Australian candidates should ask about the E-3 first
If you hold Australian citizenship, the E-3 visa is significantly faster and simpler than the H-1B, with no lottery and consular processing possible within weeks. Many employers unfamiliar with the E-3 will default to H-1B discussions, so raise it early in the conversation.
Prepare for RFEs on specialty occupation
Field Operations Coordinator is a title that USCIS sometimes challenges as insufficiently specialized. Ask your prospective employer if they have successfully sponsored this title before and whether their immigration attorney has a response strategy prepared for specialty occupation requests for evidence.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Field Operations Coordinator role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It can, but the petition needs to be built carefully. USCIS requires that the role normally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field, not just any degree. Field Operations Coordinators who work in technical industries like energy, telecommunications, or engineering services tend to have stronger cases than those in general logistics or facilities management, where duties are broader and less degree-specific.
What degree backgrounds are most likely to support visa sponsorship for this role?
Degrees in supply chain management, industrial engineering, operations management, civil engineering, or business administration with an operations focus are the strongest matches. A general business degree can work if your coursework and job duties align closely. Unrelated degrees, even from strong universities, create specialty occupation risk and may trigger a Request for Evidence from USCIS.
How do I find employers actively sponsoring Field Operations Coordinator roles?
Migrate Mate is the most efficient way to find sponsorship-open Field Operations Coordinator jobs, since listings are filtered for employers who have sponsored visas before. Department of Labor LCA disclosure data also shows which companies have filed for this title historically, which is a reliable proxy for sponsorship willingness even when it's not stated in a job posting.
Does frequent travel or multi-site work affect my visa status as a Field Operations Coordinator?
It can create compliance complexity. H-1B visa workers must have LCAs covering each location where they work for more than a few days. If your role requires rotating between project sites across different states, your employer needs to file additional LCAs or use short-term placement rules. Confirm this with your employer's immigration counsel before accepting an offer, especially for roles with heavy regional travel.
What is the typical H-1B approval rate for Field Operations Coordinator petitions?
USCIS does not publish approval rates by exact job title, but operations and management coordinator roles fall into a category that historically sees more Requests for Evidence than purely technical titles like software engineer or financial analyst. Approval rates are higher when the employer provides detailed documentation of degree requirements, past hiring patterns for the role, and industry-specific technical duties in the petition.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Field Operations Coordinator jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
