How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Funeral Arranger
Highlight mortuary science education
Emphasize any formal education in mortuary science, thanatology, or funeral service administration. These specialized programs directly support H-1B specialty occupation requirements more effectively than general business degrees.
Document grief counseling credentials
Certified grief counselor credentials, bereavement specialist training, or psychology coursework strengthen your specialty occupation case by demonstrating specialized knowledge beyond basic customer service skills.
Target funeral homes serving diverse communities
Funeral homes in multicultural areas often value multilingual staff and cultural expertise. Your international background becomes a competitive advantage rather than a sponsorship burden.
Emphasize regulatory knowledge requirements
Funeral service involves complex federal and state regulations, health department compliance, and legal documentation. Highlight how your education prepared you for these specialized regulatory responsibilities.
Research state licensing requirements early
Most states require funeral director or funeral service licenses. Research requirements in your target states before applying, as some have specific education or apprenticeship prerequisites.
Consider funeral service corporations over small family businesses
Large funeral service companies like Service Corporation International or Dignity Memorial have more experience with visa sponsorship and established legal resources compared to small family operations.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do funeral arrangers qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, when the position requires specialized knowledge in mortuary science, grief counseling, or funeral service management. The role must require at least a bachelor's degree, and many positions accept degrees in business, psychology, or mortuary science. Employers must demonstrate the position involves complex regulatory compliance and specialized client interaction beyond basic customer service.
What degree do I need for H-1B sponsorship as a funeral arranger?
Most sponsored positions accept a bachelor's degree in mortuary science, business administration, psychology, or related fields. Some employers prefer mortuary science or thanatology degrees, while others accept any bachelor's degree combined with funeral service certification or apprenticeship completion. The key is demonstrating specialized knowledge through education or professional training.
Are funeral homes willing to sponsor international workers?
Larger funeral service corporations are more likely to sponsor than small family businesses due to legal resources and experience with immigration processes. Companies serving diverse communities particularly value multilingual staff and cultural expertise. Success rates improve when you can demonstrate specialized skills like grief counseling certification or mortuary science education.
Do I need a funeral service license for H-1B sponsorship?
Licensing requirements vary by state and specific job duties. Some positions require funeral director licenses before starting, while others allow you to work under supervision while pursuing licensure. Research your target state's requirements early, as some have specific education prerequisites or apprenticeship periods that affect visa timing and job eligibility.
Can funeral arrangers get green cards through employment?
Yes, funeral arrangers can pursue green cards through the EB-2 or EB-3 categories depending on education and experience. Positions requiring advanced degrees or exceptional experience may qualify for EB-2, while most funeral arranger roles fall under EB-3. The key is maintaining H-1B status throughout the green card process, which can take several years.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Funeral Arranger jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
