H-2A Sponsorship Jobs
The H-2A visa lets foreign nationals work temporarily in the U.S. in agricultural roles when domestic workers are unavailable. There is no annual cap, making it one of the more accessible seasonal work visas for eligible applicants. Employers must provide free housing and transportation, and pay at least the Adverse Effect Wage Rate set annually for each state.

How to Get H-2A Sponsorship
Target farm operators and agricultural staffing agencies
H-2A sponsorship comes almost exclusively from growers, ranchers, nurseries, and ag staffing agencies that recruit seasonal crews. These employers file petitions directly with USCIS, so targeting them through farm job boards and state agricultural associations is more effective than general job sites.
Start your search three to four months before harvest season
H-2A employers must file petitions at least 45 days before the work start date. Most begin recruiting well before that. Connecting with growers in late winter for spring planting or midsummer for fall harvest gives you the best chance of landing a sponsored position.
Focus on states with the highest H-2A demand
Florida, California, Georgia, Washington, and North Carolina consistently file the most H-2A petitions. Concentrating your search on agricultural employers in these states significantly increases your chances of finding an employer actively seeking sponsored seasonal workers.
Understand that your visa is tied to one specific employer
H-2A status is employer-specific and tied to a defined work period and location listed in the petition. You cannot switch employers mid-season without a new petition. Confirm the job duration, location, and crop type before accepting any offer.
Verify the employer has filed a valid job order with their state agency
Legitimate H-2A employers must post a job order through the state workforce agency before sponsoring foreign workers. If an employer cannot confirm this step has been completed, the sponsorship process cannot move forward legally.
Check that you're applying from an eligible country
H-2A workers must be nationals of a country the U.S. has designated as eligible for the program. The list is updated annually. Confirm your country appears on the current USCIS eligibility list before pursuing an H-2A sponsored position.

What types of jobs qualify for H-2A sponsorship?
H-2A covers temporary or seasonal agricultural work, including crop harvesting and planting, livestock care, farm equipment operation, nursery work, and related field labor. The work must be of a temporary or seasonal nature, meaning tied to a particular season or a one-time need. Non-agricultural jobs, even on farms, do not qualify under H-2A and would instead fall under H-2B.
How does H-2A differ from H-2B?
H-2A covers agricultural work and has no annual cap, while H-2B covers non-agricultural temporary work and is subject to a 66,000 annual cap with a lottery when oversubscribed. H-2A employers have additional obligations, including providing free housing and transportation to workers from their home country. The wage requirements under H-2A are also more prescriptive, tied to the Adverse Effect Wage Rate published annually by USDA.
Which countries are eligible for H-2A visas?
Workers must be nationals of countries designated by DHS as eligible for H-2A participation, based on factors including overstay rates and cooperation on immigration enforcement. The list is reviewed annually and currently includes dozens of countries primarily in Latin America, the Caribbean, and parts of Eastern Europe and Africa. Nationals of non-designated countries may still be approved on a case-by-case basis in limited circumstances.
What housing and wage requirements apply to H-2A employers?
H-2A employers must provide free housing to workers who are not reasonably able to commute from their residence, either employer-provided housing or rental housing meeting applicable standards. Wages must be at least the Adverse Effect Wage Rate set annually for each state, the applicable prevailing wage, or federal and state minimum wage, whichever is highest. Employers must also cover round-trip transportation from the worker's home country.
How do I find H-2A agricultural jobs with visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate surfaces agricultural job listings where employers are actively sponsoring H-2A workers. Large agricultural operations, farm labor contractors, and staffing agencies that specialize in agricultural placements are the primary H-2A sponsors. Because the program requires significant employer commitments including housing, most H-2A opportunities are with established farming operations rather than small individual farms.
Can I switch to a different employer while on an H-2A visa?
Yes, but your new employer must file a new H-2A petition and receive approval from the Department of Labor and USCIS before you can begin working for them. You cannot simply transfer your H-2A status from one employer to another. Some agricultural workers do move between employers during different growing seasons, but each new placement requires its own petition and labor certification.
How long can I stay in the U.S. on an H-2A visa?
H-2A status is granted for the duration of the job order, up to a maximum of one year. Extensions are possible in one-year increments, but the total continuous stay cannot exceed three years. After reaching the three-year maximum, you must depart the U.S. for at least three uninterrupted months before being eligible for a new H-2A petition. Most H-2A workers come for seasonal periods of several months and return home between seasons.
What worker protections apply to H-2A employees?
H-2A workers are entitled to significant federal protections including free employer-provided housing that meets safety standards, daily transportation between housing and work sites, reimbursement of inbound travel and visa costs, payment of at least the Adverse Effect Wage Rate or the prevailing wage (whichever is higher), workers' compensation insurance, and a guaranteed minimum of work hours equal to three-quarters of the job order period. Employers who violate these requirements can face penalties, debarment from the program, and back-pay obligations.
