Infrastructure And Operations Jobs in USA with Visa Sponsorship
Infrastructure and operations roles span system administration, cloud infrastructure, network engineering, and IT operations management, most of which qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B. Employers in finance, healthcare, and tech regularly sponsor these positions, and the E-3 is an underused option for Australian candidates. For detailed occupation requirements, see the O*NET profile.

How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Infrastructure And Operations
Target industries with established sponsorship track records
Financial services, healthcare systems, and large tech companies file LCAs for infrastructure roles consistently. Filtering by industry before applying saves time and increases your odds of landing an employer already comfortable with the sponsorship process.
Understand how your role maps to specialty occupation criteria
USCIS requires that the position normally require a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Systems administrators and network engineers sometimes face RFEs, so having a degree in computer science, IT, or a directly related field strengthens your petition considerably.
Cloud certifications can reinforce your specialty occupation case
AWS, Azure, and GCP certifications don't replace a degree, but they signal that the role requires specialized knowledge. Employers who list certifications as requirements are easier to petition for because the job complexity is easier to document.
Australian candidates should ask about the E-3 visa specifically
The E-3 has no lottery, no annual cap pressure, and processes faster than H-1B. Many infrastructure employers don't know to offer it unprompted, so raising it early in conversations with HR can open doors that H-1B lottery odds might otherwise close.
Document your scope of responsibility in writing before your petition
Infrastructure roles vary widely in complexity. A job managing five servers is different from architecting a multi-region cloud environment. Detailed documentation of systems owned, team size, and technical decisions made helps USCIS understand why the role genuinely requires degree-level expertise.
Start sponsorship conversations before you apply, not after the offer
Employers often hesitate at the offer stage if sponsorship hasn't been discussed. Bringing it up during early interviews, framed around your visa type and timeline, gives hiring managers time to get legal sign-off and avoids last-minute surprises.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do infrastructure and operations roles qualify as specialty occupations for H-1B purposes?
Most do, but the determination is role-specific. Senior cloud engineers, network architects, and DevOps engineers with defined technical scopes typically qualify. General IT support or help desk roles often don't. The key is whether the position normally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field like computer science, information systems, or a closely related discipline. Roles with broad, generalist duties are more likely to receive an RFE.
What degree do I need to sponsor an infrastructure or operations role?
A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, information systems, or electrical engineering is the strongest fit. Degrees in unrelated fields can work if your coursework directly supports the technical requirements of the role, but the employer will need to document the connection carefully. Candidates without a four-year degree may qualify using the three-for-one rule, where three years of specialized work experience substitutes for one year of education.
How often does USCIS approve H-1B petitions for infrastructure roles?
USCIS doesn't publish approval rates by job title, but infrastructure and operations roles with clear specialty occupation documentation generally see strong approval rates. Roles with vague job descriptions or duties that don't require a specific degree are more vulnerable to RFEs and denials. Working with an immigration attorney to tighten the job description and supporting documentation before filing meaningfully reduces that risk.
Is the E-3 visa a realistic option for Australian infrastructure professionals?
Yes, and it's underused in this field. Infrastructure and operations roles in cloud, networking, and systems management routinely qualify as specialty occupations under E-3, the same standard that applies to H-1B. The E-3 skips the lottery entirely, renews in two-year increments without a cap, and can be processed through Australian consulates without changing status inside the U.S. Australian candidates browsing sponsoring employers can find relevant openings on Migrate Mate.
What should I expect from the sponsorship timeline for an infrastructure role?
H-1B petitions filed in the standard cap season have an October 1 start date, meaning you could wait six or more months from offer to first day of work. E-3 petitions filed inside the U.S. typically take two to three months. Consular E-3 processing in Australia is faster, often two to four weeks from appointment. Employers already familiar with IT sponsorship move more quickly because they have existing relationships with immigration counsel and established internal workflows.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Infrastructure And Operations jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
