How to Get Visa Sponsorship as a Production Control Manager
Target manufacturers with complex operations
Aerospace, automotive, and medical device manufacturers frequently sponsor Production Control Managers due to regulatory compliance requirements and specialized production planning expertise needed for their operations.
Emphasize systems expertise in applications
Highlight experience with ERP systems like SAP, Oracle, or specialized manufacturing software. This technical knowledge strengthens the specialty occupation argument for visa applications.
Consider contract-to-hire positions
Many manufacturers use staffing agencies for initial placements. Successfully completing contract work can lead to direct hire and visa sponsorship opportunities with the client company.
Focus on supply chain disruption experience
Companies value Production Control Managers who've managed through supply chain challenges. This specialized crisis management experience can differentiate your visa application from competitors.
Apply to companies with government contracts
Defense contractors and companies with federal contracts often have more structured visa sponsorship processes due to their experience with government compliance and documentation requirements.
Network through industry associations
APICS, ISM, and manufacturing trade associations host events where you can connect with hiring managers who understand the value of international talent in operations roles.

What degree do I need for H-1B sponsorship as a Production Control Manager?
Most positions require a bachelor's degree in operations management, industrial engineering, supply chain management, or manufacturing engineering. Some employers accept business administration with operations focus. The degree field should directly relate to production planning, inventory management, or manufacturing systems to satisfy specialty occupation requirements.
Do Production Control Manager roles qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, if the role focuses on management functions rather than hands-on production work. TN classification works best when the job emphasizes planning, analysis, and coordination rather than direct manufacturing oversight. Canadians and Mexicans can apply at the border with a detailed job offer letter emphasizing managerial responsibilities.
Which industries sponsor Production Control Managers most frequently?
Automotive, aerospace, medical devices, and electronics manufacturing lead in sponsorship rates. These industries require specialized knowledge of regulatory compliance, quality systems, and complex supply chains. Food processing and pharmaceutical companies also sponsor frequently due to FDA compliance requirements and specialized production scheduling needs.
Can I get E-3 sponsorship as a Production Control Manager from Australia?
Yes, E-3 visa sponsorship is common for this role. Australian citizens need a bachelor's degree and a U.S. job offer requiring specialized knowledge of production systems, lean manufacturing, or supply chain optimization. The employer files a Labor Condition Application confirming the position requires a degree-level professional.
What happens if my production facility closes during visa processing?
If the facility closes before your visa is approved, the petition becomes invalid and you'll need a new sponsor. If closure occurs after approval but before you start work, you have 60 days to find new employment or leave the U.S. Maintain documentation of the closure for future visa applications to explain any gaps.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Production Control Manager jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
