What you’ll do
As an IT Engineer, you’ll work in our IT Engineering function, owning our collaboration tool stack. You’ll be the primary owner of our Slack, Google Workspace, Zoom, and our collaboration surfaces our Airwallex uses to connect with our customers and work together every day. This is a technical, hands-on role, using code, integrations, clickops, command line, terminals and more. You’ll be an expert and own much of our Google Workspace operations, ensuring we build and manage a complex footprint across Google products and bring them all together with Identity engineering. You’ll need to be intensely curious, and relentless about solving hard problems. You’ll build integrations and workflows that solve our problems. You’ll work closely with INFOSEC, Revenue Operations and other IT teams across the world, ensuring we build secure and scalable solutions across the many regions where we operate. You’ll also drive onboarding and enablement of AI products and features in and around these products, experimenting, trialing and finally leveraging these tools to work faster, and drive your own results farther.
This role will focus and own our Slack, Google Workspace, Zoom, and collaboration platforms we use at Airwallex, and will work on other projects.

- Build bots, workflows, automations that connect with these tools, and leveraging AI models to enhance performance
- Regularly assess and ensure our collaboration tools work how we need them to – ensuring secure and scalable growth
- Manage through ambiguity, able to take vague problems and build solutions with strong intuition on the right path forward
- Run complex migrations and integrations from mergers and acquisitions, helping to bring in new teams to Airwallex
- Collaborate extensively across the business, with key teams in Finance, Legal, Operations, Support, Sales etc. to solve their problems, and help them use these products to move faster and support our growth

- Extremely strong written and verbal communication, able to convey an idea or solution to technical and non-technical audiences in chat, documents or zoom
- Demonstrated experience with data migration, automation scripts, custom build integrations, bots and workflows

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Senior IT Engineer
Lead with your technical specialization
Employers sponsor roles they can't easily fill domestically. Highlight niche expertise, cloud architecture, cybersecurity, DevOps, or enterprise systems, prominently in your resume. Specialized engineers face less internal resistance when companies evaluate sponsorship costs.
Target companies with a sponsorship track record
Large tech firms, financial institutions, and healthcare systems sponsor Senior IT Engineers regularly. Focusing on employers with established immigration programs means faster approvals and less friction during the offer and onboarding process.
Understand your degree's role in the petition
Your bachelor's degree field matters. Computer science, information systems, or electrical engineering align cleanly with most Senior IT Engineer roles. If your degree is in an unrelated field, document how your coursework or certifications establish equivalent specialized knowledge.
Frame your seniority in terms of decision-making authority
USCIS looks for roles requiring theoretical and practical application of specialized knowledge. Emphasize system architecture decisions, cross-functional technical leadership, and complex problem-solving, not just task execution, to strengthen the specialty occupation argument.
Get your LCA job title and duties right before filing
The Labor Condition Application locks in your job title and duties. Mismatches between the LCA and your actual role can trigger RFEs or denials. Review the LCA carefully with your employer before it's filed with the Department of Labor.
Don't wait for H-1B season to start the process
Cap-exempt employers, universities, nonprofits, and research institutions, can file H-1B petitions year-round. If you're exploring those sectors, sponsorship isn't limited to the April lottery window, giving you more flexibility in your job search timeline.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior IT Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
In most cases, yes. Senior IT Engineer roles typically require at minimum a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related engineering field, which satisfies the specialty occupation standard. However, if the job description allows any bachelor's degree regardless of field, USCIS may push back with an RFE. Employers should write job requirements precisely to reflect the technical depth the role actually demands.
Can I get an H-1B as a Senior IT Engineer if my degree is not in computer science?
Yes, but it requires more documentation. USCIS accepts degrees in closely related fields like electrical engineering, mathematics, or information systems. If your degree is unrelated, you can substitute three years of specialized work experience per year of missing education. Certifications alone rarely suffice, the experience needs to be documented in detail and directly tied to the IT engineering duties in the petition.
How can I find Senior IT Engineer jobs that sponsor visas?
Migrate Mate lists Senior IT Engineer roles specifically from employers open to visa sponsorship, so you're not sifting through postings that exclude international candidates. Filtering by role and sponsorship type upfront saves significant time and targets companies that have sponsored similar positions before.
Is the L-1B visa a realistic option for Senior IT Engineers transferring within a multinational company?
Yes, and it's often underused. The L-1B covers employees with specialized knowledge, which fits Senior IT Engineers working on proprietary systems, infrastructure, or enterprise platforms specific to their employer. You must have worked for the overseas affiliate for at least one continuous year within the past three years. L-1B approval rates have improved with stronger documentation of what makes the knowledge genuinely specialized.
What's the difference between an H-1B and an O-1A for a Senior IT Engineer?
The H-1B visa is the standard path for specialty occupation roles and requires an employer sponsor and, for most applicants, lottery selection. The O-1A is reserved for individuals with extraordinary ability, think published research, patents, major awards, or recognized leadership in the field. Senior IT Engineers with exceptional credentials can bypass the lottery entirely via O-1A, but the evidentiary bar is meaningfully higher than H-1B.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Senior IT Engineer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
