Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Ultrasound Technologist Jobs
Target hospitals and health systems over small clinics
Large hospital networks like Kaiser Permanente, HCA Healthcare, and Cleveland Clinic have established visa sponsorship programs and legal teams to handle H-1B petitions efficiently.
Highlight specialized certifications in your application
ARDMS credentials in specific areas like cardiac, vascular, or obstetric sonography strengthen your specialty occupation case and make you more attractive to sponsors.
Apply for positions requiring specific diagnostic expertise
Jobs requiring specialized skills like echocardiography, vascular duplex, or interventional procedures have stronger H-1B approval odds than general sonography roles.
Consider rural and underserved areas with visa incentives
Critical access hospitals and rural health centers often have easier sponsorship processes and may qualify for certain visa fee exemptions as nonprofits.
Document your education equivalency early
If your foreign degree isn't in diagnostic medical sonography, get a credential evaluation showing equivalency to U.S. sonography programs before applying.
Apply 6-8 months before your status expires
H-1B processing for healthcare positions can take 4-6 months, and premium processing may not guarantee approval for all specialty occupation arguments.

Find Ultrasound Technologist JobsFrequently Asked Questions
What degree do I need for H-1B sponsorship as an ultrasound technologist?
You need at least an associate degree in diagnostic medical sonography, radiologic technology, or a related healthcare field. Some employers prefer bachelor's degrees, which strengthen your H-1B case. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency, and ARDMS certification helps demonstrate specialized knowledge regardless of your educational background.
Which visa types work best for ultrasound technologists?
H-1B is the primary option, though approval rates vary by case strength and employer petition quality. TN visa works for Canadian and Mexican citizens with qualifying degrees. J-1 exchange visitor programs exist for clinical training, but require return to home country afterward unless you qualify for a waiver.
Do ultrasound tech positions qualify as specialty occupations?
Yes, when the position requires specific diagnostic medical sonography education and training. USCIS looks for job duties requiring specialized knowledge of ultrasound physics, anatomy, pathology, and equipment operation. Generic patient care duties won't support the petition, but complex diagnostic responsibilities will.
Can I get sponsored working part-time as an ultrasound tech?
H-1B requires full-time employment, defined as at least 35 hours per week. Part-time positions don't qualify. However, you can work for multiple H-1B sponsors simultaneously if each files a separate petition for their portion of your work, though this is complex and expensive.
How to find Ultrasound Technologist jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Ultrasound Technologist positions with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting healthcare professionals with sponsoring employers. Focus your search on hospitals, diagnostic imaging centers, and medical clinics that commonly sponsor H-1B, EB-3, or TN visas for qualified sonographers. These healthcare facilities often have ongoing staffing needs and established sponsorship programs for international medical professionals.
What happens if I want to change employers on H-1B?
Your new employer must file a new H-1B petition before you start working for them. You can begin working once the new petition is filed if your current H-1B is still valid, but if the new petition is denied, you must stop working immediately and may need to leave the U.S.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Ultrasound Technologist jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
