Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a vocational rehabilitation counselor in Montana?
Montana does not maintain a separate state license for vocational rehabilitation counselors, but most employers require or strongly prefer the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor credential issued by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification. You earn the CRC by completing a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling or a related field and passing the national exam. State agency positions through the Montana Department of Labor and Industry typically follow these same standards.
Which companies hire vocational rehabilitation counselors in Montana?
Montana vocational rehabilitation counselor roles are posted by Benefis Health System, Glendive Medical Center, and The Rehabilitation Hospital of Montana and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's mix of state agency positions, nonprofit community rehabilitation programs, and regional health systems means openings appear across multiple employer types throughout the year.
Which Montana cities have the most vocational rehabilitation counselor jobs?
Great Falls, Billings, and Glendive account for the largest share of vocational rehabilitation counselor openings in Montana. Billings drives the most activity as the state's largest metro and home to major health systems and state agency regional offices, while Missoula's concentration of university-affiliated services and Great Falls' regional health infrastructure pull the numbers in those markets.
Are there remote vocational rehabilitation counselor jobs in Montana?
Yes, but they are limited. About 0% of vocational rehabilitation counselor openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the role's core need for in-person client assessment and community-based engagement. The parts of the work most suited to remote delivery are documentation, virtual counseling sessions, and coordination with employers across Montana's rural corridors.
How can I get hired as a vocational rehabilitation counselor in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a rehabilitation counselor assistant or vocational case aide position with the Montana Department of Labor and Industry's Vocational Rehabilitation program, which regularly brings on candidates who are completing or have recently finished a master's program. Lateral moves from adjacent roles such as disability services coordinator, benefits planner, or employment specialist at community rehabilitation providers give candidates relevant caseload experience. Sitting for the CRC exam early, even before accumulating full supervised hours, signals commitment and gives newer applicants a competitive edge in Montana's smaller hiring pool.
Where can I find and apply to vocational rehabilitation counselor jobs in Montana?
You can find and apply to vocational rehabilitation counselor jobs in Montana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Montana openings from employers across the state. Find roles that fit your experience and credentials and apply directly to the employers posting them.
