Wildlife Biologist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a wildlife biologist in Texas?
You become a wildlife biologist in Texas by earning at least a bachelor's degree in wildlife biology, ecology, zoology, or a closely related field, typically from a Texas university with a strong natural resources program such as Texas A&M, Texas Tech, or Sul Ross State. Texas does not require a state-issued license to work as a wildlife biologist, but positions with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department or federal agencies often require additional background checks and species-specific training before hire.
Which companies hire wildlife biologists in Texas?
Texas wildlife biologist roles are posted by Canacre and Quanta Services and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Environmental consulting firms supporting Texas energy and infrastructure projects are among the most consistent private-sector employers in the state.
Which Texas cities have the most wildlife biologist jobs?
Spring have the most wildlife biologist openings in Texas. Austin leads because it is home to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department headquarters and a dense cluster of environmental consulting firms, while San Antonio and Houston generate demand through federal land management offices, energy sector compliance work, and large infrastructure projects that require ongoing biological assessments.
Are there remote wildlife biologist jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of wildlife biologist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the hands-on, field-based nature of most roles. The portions of the work most likely to be done remotely are report writing, GIS analysis, and data review, while field surveys, site assessments, and agency coordination typically require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a wildlife biologist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a seasonal field technician role with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department or the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, both of which regularly hire people without full professional experience for survey crews, habitat monitoring, and data collection. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and the Lone Star chapter of The Wildlife Society also connect new graduates with internships and volunteer field projects. Completing threatened and endangered species training, earning a wildlife biologist certification through The Wildlife Society, and building a field hours log are the credentials that move entry-level candidates to the top of applicant pools.
