Position Overview and Responsibilities:

We are hiring multiple seasonal, part-time positions (~20 hours/week) responsible for conducting a 20-week (November 2026 to May 2027) roving creel on Lake Monroe in Volusia County. Position will run till 5/30/2027. Incumbent will be expected to:

Interview anglers on Lake Monroe (Volusia County) by asking specific questions about their catch and harvest of freshwater fish species.

Accurately record detailed survey data while operating a boat independently and safely.

Responsible for operating FWC equipment (ex. trucks, trailers, and motorboats) for FWC business only and in a safe and law-abiding manner.

Surveys will be conducted in all-weather types including hot, cold, windy, and/or rainy conditions as long as conditions are not dangerous. Appropriate protective and safety gear will be furnished.

Occasional opportunities to assist biologists with field sampling and laboratory work will also be available.

Position is expected to work weekdays and weekend days. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of common freshwater fishes.

Skill in boat/outboard motor operation, trailer towing with a ½ ton truck.

Ability to effectively communicate with the public and supervisors.

Knowledge of sampling techniques for fish, aquatic habitat and/or water quality.

Ability to understand and follow technical instructions relating to sampling and evaluation of fish populations and aquatic habitats.
