Accounting Intern Jobs in Alaska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accounting intern in Alaska?
You become an accounting intern in Alaska by enrolling in an accredited accounting program at a university such as the University of Alaska Anchorage or University of Alaska Fairbanks and completing foundational coursework in financial and managerial accounting. Most employers require you to be actively pursuing a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. While Alaska does not require licensure at the intern stage, gaining hours now counts toward the Alaska Board of Public Accountancy's CPA experience requirements later.
Which companies hire accounting interns in Alaska?
Alaska accounting intern roles are posted by State of Alaska, BDO, and Walgreens and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Alaska's energy sector, state government agencies, and regional public accounting firms are consistently among the most active sources of intern openings across the state.
Which Alaska cities have the most accounting intern jobs?
Anchorage, Juneau, and Fairbanks have the most accounting intern openings in Alaska. Anchorage dominates because it is home to the state's largest private employers, major oil and gas companies, and the bulk of Alaska's professional services firms, while Fairbanks and Juneau draw openings through the University of Alaska system, regional government offices, and public sector agencies that anchor those communities.
Are there remote accounting intern jobs in Alaska?
Yes, but they're less common than in fully desk-based fields, since many Alaska employers expect interns to work on-site during their rotation. About 31% of accounting intern openings tied to Alaska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting a mix of employers. Tax preparation support, data reconciliation, and accounts payable processing are the tasks most likely to be offered on a remote or hybrid basis.
How can I get hired as a accounting intern in Alaska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to internship programs run by the State of Alaska's Department of Revenue or Department of Administration, which regularly recruit students with no prior work experience. The University of Alaska career centers connect students with regional public accounting firms that offer structured rotations. Volunteering to prepare returns through an IRS-certified VITA site strengthens your application, as does any coursework in governmental or fund accounting given Alaska's large public-sector employer base.
Where can I find and apply to accounting intern jobs in Alaska?
You can find and apply to accounting intern jobs in Alaska on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your program enrollment and coursework, and apply directly to whichever positions fit your situation.
