Analytical Chemist Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a analytical chemist in New York?
Most analytical chemist positions in New York require at minimum a bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field, though roles in pharmaceutical QA and environmental compliance often prefer a master's degree or higher. New York does not issue a state-specific license for analytical chemists, but roles in clinical or environmental laboratories may require staff to work under a laboratory director holding a New York State Department of Health permit. Building experience through co-ops, university research labs, or internships with New York pharmaceutical and biotech employers is the most direct path to a first role.
How much do analytical chemists make in New York?
Analytical chemists in New York earn a median of about $90,600 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $61,100 for the lowest 10% to over $155,190 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire analytical chemists in New York?
Companies currently hiring analytical chemists in New York include Eurofins, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. New York's pharmaceutical manufacturing base on Long Island and in the Hudson Valley means large drug makers and contract research organizations are among the most consistent sources of openings in the state.
Which New York cities have the most analytical chemist jobs?
Albany and Rensselaer account for the most analytical chemist openings in New York. New York City anchors demand through its concentration of biotech startups, food safety labs, and environmental testing firms, while Long Island and the Hudson Valley draw volume from established pharmaceutical manufacturers and contract labs with deep roots in those communities.
How can I get hired as a analytical chemist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior quality control analyst or laboratory technician role, which large New York pharmaceutical employers and contract testing organizations hire for without requiring prior industry experience. Companies like Pfizer and contract labs on Long Island regularly bring on new graduates into structured QC associate programs. Completing relevant coursework in instrumental analysis, maintaining a strong academic laboratory record, and earning an EIT credential if your background leans toward environmental testing all strengthen a first application in this market.
Where can I find and apply to analytical chemist jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to analytical chemist jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings for roles that match your background and apply directly to the ones that fit.
