Android Engineer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a android engineer in New York?
Android engineering requires no state-issued license in New York, so the path runs through education and demonstrated skill. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, though strong candidates from bootcamps or self-taught backgrounds do get hired when their portfolios are solid. New York's dense tech and fintech industries mean employers expect familiarity with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and mobile security practices from day one.
How much do android engineers make in New York?
Android engineers in New York earn a median of about $166,180 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $97,430 for the lowest 10% to over $224,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire android engineers in New York?
Employers hiring android engineers in New York right now include Suno, Radar, and Whatnot, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of financial services, media, and adtech firms means android engineers here often work on high-volume consumer apps and internal enterprise tools with demanding performance requirements.
Which New York cities have the most android engineer jobs?
New York, New York City, and Buffalo have the most android engineer openings in New York. New York City dominates because its dense fintech, media, and adtech sectors generate consistent mobile engineering demand, while Buffalo and Albany see activity from regional healthcare systems, state government technology initiatives, and growing startup communities that rely on smaller but steady android teams.
Are there remote android engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 33% of android engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how well mobile development translates to distributed work. Fully remote roles are most common in product-focused companies and startups, while hybrid arrangements are typical at large financial institutions and media companies that prefer engineers on-site for certain sprint cycles.
How can I get hired as a android engineer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior or associate android developer role, which large New York employers in fintech and media regularly post for candidates who show strong Kotlin fundamentals and a portfolio of personal or academic projects. Companies like Bloomberg and Verizon run structured new-grad programs that accept candidates from both four-year programs and recognized bootcamps. Moving laterally from a QA automation or web front-end role is a practical alternative, and contributing to open-source Android projects strengthens a New York application considerably.
