Tips for Your Antenna Engineer Job Search
Quantify your antenna design achievements
List measured results on your resume: gain improvements in dBi, bandwidth, VSWR, or efficiency gains you delivered. Hiring managers in RF roles skim for these numbers fast, so surface them in your bullet points rather than burying them in project descriptions.
Match your clearance status upfront
Defense and government antenna roles often require an active Secret or Top Secret clearance. State your clearance level and status in your resume header so recruiters don't have to hunt for it, and filter openings by clearance requirement before applying.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists antenna engineer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target your simulation tool proficiency
Openings for antenna engineers almost always name specific tools like HFSS, CST Studio, or FEKO. Tailor each application to mirror the exact software listed in the job posting, because many teams filter resumes on tool familiarity before reviewing anything else.
Prepare to walk through a design tradeoff
Antenna engineering interviews frequently ask you to defend a design decision, such as why you chose a patch array over a horn or traded gain for beamwidth. Practice articulating your reasoning aloud, including the constraints that drove your choice and what you would change with more budget or space.
Negotiate on total comp including lab access
At smaller defense contractors and startups, cash salary flexibility is often limited, but you can negotiate on conference budget, access to anechoic chamber time, and tool licenses. Asking about lab resources also signals that you take measurement and validation seriously.
Antenna Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most antenna engineers?
The companies hiring the most antenna engineers right now include Amazon, Fisher Asset Management, and General Motors (GM), with the largest share of openings in California, Massachusetts, and Arizona, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Defense primes and satellite communications firms consistently account for a large portion of active openings.
How many antenna engineer jobs are remote?
About 40% of antenna engineer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which is lower than most engineering disciplines because hands-on lab and range testing is a core part of the role. Sub-specializations in computational electromagnetics modeling and systems-level design tend to offer the most remote flexibility.
How do you become an antenna engineer?
Start with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field that includes coursework in electromagnetics and microwave theory. Build hands-on skills with simulation tools like HFSS or CST through coursework or personal projects, then target internships or entry-level RF roles where you can work alongside experienced antenna engineers on real hardware. A master's degree strengthens your candidacy for research-heavy or advanced phased array positions.
How do you get hired as an antenna engineer with little experience?
Focus on demonstrating hands-on simulation and measurement work, even from academic projects. Build a portfolio that shows a full design cycle: requirements, simulation, fabrication or prototyping, and measured results on a network analyzer. Roles at smaller defense subcontractors and university research labs often accept candidates with strong project portfolios in place of commercial experience, and they provide mentorship that accelerates your growth quickly.
What does the antenna engineer interview process look like?
Most processes start with a recruiter or HR screen, followed by a technical phone interview covering electromagnetics fundamentals and your simulation tool experience. A take-home design problem or a live whiteboard session on antenna tradeoffs is common at mid and senior levels. Final rounds typically involve a panel with RF systems engineers who will ask you to walk through a past design decision, including the constraints you faced and how you validated performance.
Where can I find and apply to antenna engineer jobs?
You can find and apply to antenna engineer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Search the listings to find roles that match your specialization and experience level, then apply directly to each opening that fits.
