Architect Jobs in Philadelphia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an architect job in Philadelphia?
Focus your search on Philadelphia's institutional and urban design sectors, which drive consistent hiring across Center City firms, University City's academic medical campuses, and the Navy Yard's growing development cluster. Candidates with healthcare or higher education project experience have a clear edge locally. Familiarity with Philadelphia's historic preservation requirements and mixed-use urban infill work also stands out to the architecture firms most active in this market.
Which companies hire architects in Philadelphia?
Companies currently hiring architects in Philadelphia include CapTech Consulting, HDR, and WTW, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Philadelphia's hiring mix includes large regional firms handling civic and institutional projects, healthcare system design teams, and urban development practices concentrated in Center City and the Navy Yard.
Are there remote architect jobs in Philadelphia?
Yes, though architect roles are less remote-friendly than purely desk-based professions given the site visits, client presentations, and construction coordination involved. About 83% of architect openings tied to Philadelphia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting flexible arrangements that exist mainly at the design and documentation phases. In Philadelphia, hybrid schedules tied to Center City studio offices are the most common form of flexibility.
How can I get an architect job in Philadelphia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Philadelphia is targeting internship-to-hire pipelines at mid-size institutional firms that regularly take on architecture graduates from Drexel, Temple, and Jefferson. Many of these firms start candidates in junior drafter or design coordinator roles supporting healthcare and civic projects. Building a portfolio that reflects Philadelphia's emphasis on adaptive reuse and historic buildings gives newer candidates a locally relevant edge when competing for entry-level positions.
