Design Manager Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a design manager in Pennsylvania?
The concrete path to a design manager role in Pennsylvania starts with a bachelor's degree in graphic design, industrial design, UX, or a related field, followed by several years building a portfolio as an individual contributor. Pennsylvania does not require a state-issued license for design managers, so employers focus on demonstrated leadership experience and a strong body of work. Many candidates move into management from senior designer or art director roles at Philadelphia or Pittsburgh firms.
How much do design managers make in Pennsylvania?
Design managers in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $97,450 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $65,470 for the lowest 10% to over $149,940 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire design managers in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring design managers in Pennsylvania right now include AECOM, DICK'S Sporting Goods, and Lutron Electronics, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pennsylvania's mix of large media, healthcare, and consumer-goods companies creates consistent demand for design leadership across both in-house creative teams and agency-side studios.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most design manager jobs?
Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Hershey have the most design manager openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia's density of advertising agencies, financial services firms, and healthcare systems drives the largest share of postings, while Pittsburgh's resurgent tech sector and legacy manufacturing brands like PPG account for a significant concentration outside the southeast corner of the state.
Are there remote design manager jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 69% of design manager openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work, including design reviews, stakeholder presentations, and tool-based collaboration, can be done off-site. Strategic and UX-focused manager roles tend to be the most remote-compatible, while roles tied to physical product, retail environment, or in-house production teams typically require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a design manager in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a senior individual-contributor role, such as senior graphic designer, senior UX designer, or art director, into a team lead or player-coach position before pursuing a full management title. Philadelphia-area employers including large hospital networks and consumer brands occasionally post associate creative director or design lead roles that bridge the gap. Building a portfolio that documents project ownership, creative direction, and cross-team collaboration is the single credential that carries the most weight with Pennsylvania hiring teams.
Where can I find and apply to design manager jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to design manager jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current Pennsylvania openings. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly through each listing.
