Assistant Professor Jobs in Atlanta: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a assistant professor job in Atlanta?
Atlanta's strongest hiring comes from its cluster of historically Black colleges and universities, large research universities, and healthcare-affiliated academic medical centers. Candidates with active research agendas, a record of grant activity, and teaching experience in high-demand fields like public health, business, and STEM have the clearest edge. Applying directly to departments in Midtown and the University Center district, where most institutions are concentrated, shortens the search.
Which companies hire assistant professors in Atlanta?
Employers hiring assistant professors in Atlanta right now include Emory University, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Emory Healthcare, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Atlanta's academic market is anchored by a mix of research universities, liberal arts colleges, and health sciences institutions, many of which hire across multiple departments each cycle.
Are there remote assistant professor jobs in Atlanta?
Yes, though remote availability is limited for assistant professor roles because most positions require on-campus teaching, lab supervision, and committee service. About 67% of assistant professor openings tied to Atlanta are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, which tends to reflect online-program faculty positions or courses taught asynchronously. Fully remote lines in Atlanta are most common at institutions running large online degree programs.
How can I get a assistant professor job in Atlanta with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Atlanta is a postdoctoral fellowship or visiting assistant professor appointment, which several of Atlanta's research universities and medical schools offer annually. These roles build the teaching record and publication output that tenure-track searches require. Adjunct and lecturer positions at Atlanta's smaller colleges also provide a local foothold, and community college instructor roles in the metro area are a common lateral move into a full-time academic career.
Which industries hire the most assistant professors in Atlanta?
The sectors hiring the most assistant professors in Atlanta are Education and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Atlanta's role as a regional hub for public health, business education, and technology research drives sustained faculty demand across these fields.
