Department Information
Department Specific Tasks And Responsibilities
- Provides quality and technically relevant instruction in the care of both the physical and emotional needs of patients.
- Ensures student mastery of the following learning outcomes by providing continual feedback and various methods of assessment measurements.
- Explains the legal and ethical responsibilities of a certified nursing assistant, including the importance of Resident’s Rights.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills when giving and receiving a resident’s status report.
- Defines infection prevention and explains the importance of Standard Precautions, hand hygiene, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in facilities.
- Demonstrates how to recognize and respond to medical emergencies using Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid procedures.
- Describes body systems and defines key anatomical terms.
- Explains positioning and demonstrates how to safely position, transfer, and ambulate residents.
- Explains personal care and demonstrates how to provide assistance with bathing, grooming, dressing, oral care, and skin care.
- Explains the importance of monitoring vital signs and demonstrates how to measure body temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure.
- Describes the importance of proper nutrition and hydration and lists the six basic nutrients.
- Discusses rehabilitation and restorative care and identifies the types of residents who are in a subacute setting.
Job Summary
Provides quality and technically relevant instruction in the assigned program. Follows departmental guidelines, policies, procedures and relevant regulations.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides quality and technically relevant instruction of course curriculum.
- Teaches students learning strategies.
- Conducts teaching and instructional activities using educational equipment, manipulatives, props, and other learning aids.
- Provides continual feedback and various methods of assessment measurement by ensuring student mastery of the following learning outcomes as addressed in the program’s addendum.
- Assesses and records grading for all homework assignments, quizzes, and tests.
- Completes paperwork associated with classroom and project management.
- Participates in marketing of courses to prospective students by providing technical information regarding course content during biannual Open House events.
- Assists with course and/or program evaluation and continuous improvement and resolves quiz disputes when necessary.
- Maintains acceptable program quality and satisfaction scores.
- Keeps Program Manager informed of any curriculum or student code of conduct issues.
- Records attendance in learning management system.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) within the state of Georgia from an accredited institution of higher education.
Other Required Qualifications
Current, valid and unrestricted Georgia license as an RN or LPN.
Required Experience
Five (5) years of experience in a medical setting as an RN or LPN including the completion of the Train-the-trainer workshop prior to or upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Must hold expert knowledge in patient care procedures, gerontology, & bedside manner.
- Must be comfortable with teaching in classroom and on a distance learning platform.
Teaching Experience Preferred
Experience in a senior care facility preferred.

- Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines.
- Able to motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational process.
- Able to review syllabus and learning outcomes the first night of class.
- Able to provide sufficient time for students to complete course evaluations.
- Do not release class early.
- Do not leave class unattended.
- Able to respond to student inquiries in a timely manner.
KNOWLEDGE
- Be familiar with all emergency procedures posted in the classroom.
- Expert knowledge in patient care procedures, gerontology, and bedside manner.
Skills
- Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills.
- Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite).
- Strong attention to detail and follow up skills.
- Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette.
