Nursing Instructor Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a nursing instructor in Texas?
To become a nursing instructor in Texas, you must hold an active Registered Nurse license in good standing with the Texas Board of Nursing and meet the board's faculty qualification requirements, which include a graduate degree in nursing. Most full-time positions at accredited programs require a Master of Science in Nursing at minimum. Community colleges often accept applicants with a bachelor's degree plus substantial clinical experience for adjunct or clinical faculty roles.
How much do nursing instructors make in Texas?
Nursing instructors in Texas earn a median of about $84,930 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $50,760 for the lowest 10% to over $137,530 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire nursing instructors in Texas?
Employers hiring nursing instructors in Texas right now include Baylor College of Medicine, The University of Texas at Arlington, and Texas A&M University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large academic medical centers and community college districts are among the most consistent sources of nursing faculty openings in the state.
Which Texas cities have the most nursing instructor jobs?
Houston, Arlington, and Galveston have the most nursing instructor openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its concentration of academic medical centers and nursing schools, while San Antonio and Dallas-Fort Worth support steady demand through large health systems, community college networks, and university-affiliated clinical training programs serving those major metropolitan populations.
Are there remote nursing instructor jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're less common than in many other fields because nursing instruction typically involves hands-on clinical supervision and simulation lab work that requires an on-site presence. About 2% of nursing instructor openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those roles tend to focus on didactic coursework, online theory courses, or curriculum development rather than direct clinical teaching.
How can I get hired as a nursing instructor in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for adjunct or part-time clinical faculty roles at Texas community colleges, which often accept candidates with strong bedside experience even without prior teaching. Institutions such as Austin Community College and San Jacinto College regularly hire clinical adjuncts from hospital settings. Transitioning from a preceptor, charge nurse, or staff development educator role builds directly relevant credentials, and completing a Texas Board of Nursing-approved faculty preparation course strengthens any application.
Where can I find and apply to nursing instructor jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to nursing instructor jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from Texas employers in one place. Search the listings to see roles that match your experience and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
