Assistant Project Manager Jobs in Birmingham: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a assistant project manager job in Birmingham?
Focus your search on Birmingham's construction and infrastructure firms, its major healthcare systems, and the engineering and utilities companies concentrated downtown and along the Highway 280 corridor. Candidates who stand out typically bring hands-on experience coordinating schedules, budgets, or subcontractors, and familiarity with tools like Procore or Microsoft Project. A PMP or CAPM credential adds weight, but demonstrated local project experience on commercial or healthcare builds gets you in the door faster.
Which companies hire assistant project managers in Birmingham?
Employers hiring assistant project managers in Birmingham right now include UAB Medicine, Advastar, and Creature, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Birmingham's mix of general contractors, hospital networks, civil engineering firms, and utilities companies makes it one of the more varied markets in the Southeast for this role.
Are there remote assistant project manager jobs in Birmingham?
Yes, though assistant project manager roles are often site-dependent, meaning fully remote openings are less common than in purely desk-based fields. About 0% of assistant project manager openings tied to Birmingham are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to be with software, finance, or professional services employers rather than construction or facilities teams. The most remote-friendly tasks are scheduling, reporting, and vendor coordination.
How can I get a assistant project manager job in Birmingham with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Birmingham is through construction or engineering firms that hire project coordinators or administrative project support roles and promote from within. Targeting mid-size general contractors in the Birmingham metro, healthcare system capital project teams at UAB or Ascension, or city infrastructure programs gives you exposure to live projects early. Earning a CAPM, building Excel and scheduling skills, and volunteering to coordinate small internal initiatives all strengthen a first application in this market.
Which industries hire the most assistant project managers in Birmingham?
Most assistant project manager openings in Birmingham sit in Staffing & Recruiting and Construction & Real Estate, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Birmingham's role as a regional hub for healthcare, commercial construction, and civil infrastructure drives consistent demand across those sectors year-round.
