Project Coordinator Jobs in Alabama: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project coordinator in Alabama?
Most Alabama employers hire project coordinators with a bachelor's degree in business administration, construction management, engineering, or a related field. Alabama has no state-issued license specific to project coordinators, but earning a Project Management Professional credential through the Project Management Institute significantly strengthens applications, particularly for roles in Huntsville's defense sector and Birmingham's healthcare and construction markets.
How much do project coordinators make in Alabama?
Project coordinators in Alabama earn a median of about $100,820 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $63,550 for the lowest 10% to over $164,910 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project coordinators in Alabama?
Employers hiring project coordinators in Alabama right now include Austal, Johnson Controls, and Pace Analytical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Alabama's defense, aerospace, and healthcare industries drive consistent year-round demand from large institutional and government-adjacent employers.
Which Alabama cities have the most project coordinator jobs?
Mobile, Birmingham, and Huntsville are the Alabama cities with the most project coordinator openings. Huntsville leads because of its concentrated defense and aerospace contracting ecosystem, Birmingham generates volume through its large hospital systems, construction firms, and corporate headquarters, and Mobile's port, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors support ongoing coordination roles.
Are there remote project coordinator jobs in Alabama?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 11% of project coordinator openings tied to Alabama are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the coordination work involves scheduling, documentation, and stakeholder communication rather than physical site presence. IT project coordination and back-office program support roles are the most likely to offer fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a project coordinator in Alabama with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from an administrative, operations, or scheduling role at a large Alabama employer. UAB Medicine and Alabama hospital systems regularly hire program or administrative coordinators who can grow into formal project roles. Earning a CAPM certification from the Project Management Institute signals commitment without requiring years of experience, and construction companies in Birmingham and Mobile frequently hire coordinators from estimating or field assistant positions.
