Project Manager Jobs in Alabama: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project manager in Alabama?
Most Alabama employers expect a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, construction management, or a related discipline as the foundation. There is no state-issued license required to practice as a project manager in Alabama, but the PMP credential from the Project Management Institute is the most widely recognized professional benchmark and is frequently listed as preferred or required in Alabama postings, particularly in Huntsville's defense and aerospace sector and Birmingham's corporate and healthcare markets.
How much do project managers make in Alabama?
Project managers in Alabama earn a median of about $162,350 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $106,100 for the lowest 10% to over $236,230 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project managers in Alabama?
Companies currently hiring project managers in Alabama include Baptist Health, Brasfield & Gorrie, and 4P Consulting, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Alabama's concentration of defense contractors in Huntsville, large healthcare systems in Birmingham, and industrial and shipbuilding operations in Mobile means project manager demand is spread across several distinct industry clusters rather than dominated by a single sector.
Which Alabama cities have the most project manager jobs?
The cities with the most project manager openings in Alabama are Birmingham, Huntsville, and Mobile. Huntsville leads because of its dense cluster of defense contractors and federal agencies centered on Redstone Arsenal, while Birmingham drives volume through healthcare systems, financial services, and corporate headquarters, and Mobile contributes through port logistics, shipbuilding, and industrial manufacturing.
Are there remote project manager jobs in Alabama?
Yes, and more than most fields, since project management is fundamentally a coordination and communication role that translates well to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 14% of project manager openings tied to Alabama are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broader technology and corporate employer flexibility. IT project management and software delivery roles carry the highest share of remote options, while construction and on-site infrastructure roles remain predominantly in-person.
How can I get hired as a project manager in Alabama with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a coordinator, analyst, or operations role within an Alabama employer that already knows your work. Birmingham's large hospital networks and corporate employers like Regions Bank regularly hire project coordinators as a formal step below full project manager. In Huntsville, defense and IT contractors often bring in junior project managers from engineering or logistics backgrounds. Earning a CAPM certification from the Project Management Institute before or during your job search signals commitment and gives entry-level candidates a concrete credential to lead with.
Where can I find and apply to project manager jobs in Alabama?
You can find and apply to project manager jobs in Alabama on Migrate Mate, which lists current Alabama openings across industries and experience levels. Search the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match. No signup is needed to see the listings.
