Healthcare Project Manager Jobs in Alabama: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a healthcare project manager in Alabama?
Most healthcare project manager roles in Alabama require a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, nursing, public health, or business, combined with hands-on experience in a clinical or health services setting. Alabama does not issue a state-specific project management license for this role, but employers consistently require or prefer the Project Management Professional certification from PMI. Many candidates build their path through coordinator roles inside Alabama hospital systems before stepping into full project management positions.
How much do healthcare project managers make in Alabama?
Healthcare project managers in Alabama earn a median of about $100,820 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $63,550 for the lowest 10% to over $164,910 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire healthcare project managers in Alabama?
Employers hiring healthcare project managers in Alabama right now include Baptist Health, UAB Medicine, and Huntsville Hospital Health System, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Alabama's largest health systems, insurance carriers, and health IT vendors consistently drive the bulk of project management hiring across the state.
Which Alabama cities have the most healthcare project manager jobs?
Alabaster, Birmingham, and Huntsville have the most healthcare project manager openings in Alabama. Birmingham leads because UAB Medicine, Ascension St. Vincent's, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama are headquartered or have major campuses there, while Huntsville's growth in managed care and health technology has expanded demand, and Mobile serves as the regional hub for South Alabama's hospital networks.
Are there remote healthcare project manager jobs in Alabama?
Yes, and more than many healthcare roles. About 33% of healthcare project manager openings tied to Alabama are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting that much of the work involves planning, reporting, and cross-team coordination rather than hands-on clinical duties. EHR implementation, compliance program management, and health IT project roles are the most likely to offer fully remote or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a healthcare project manager in Alabama with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a project coordinator or administrative analyst role inside a large Alabama health system such as UAB Medicine or DCH Health System, where structured exposure to project workflows is built in. Completing the CAPM certification through PMI gives candidates without direct experience a credible credential. Lateral moves from clinical roles like charge nurse, health information specialist, or case manager are also common entry points because of the built-in knowledge of care delivery operations.
