Program Coordinator Jobs in Alabama: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a program coordinator in Alabama?
Most program coordinator roles in Alabama require at least a bachelor's degree in a field related to the program's focus, such as public health, social work, education, or business administration. No single state-issued license applies to all program coordinators, but roles in healthcare may require coordination with Alabama Department of Public Health credentialing standards, and grant-funded positions often require familiarity with state and federal compliance requirements. Building experience through AmeriCorps placements, nonprofit internships, or county health department roles is a common Alabama entry path.
Which companies hire program coordinators in Alabama?
Companies currently hiring program coordinators in Alabama include University of Alabama, Birmingham, Health Connect America, and UAB Medicine, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Alabama's mix of large healthcare systems, public universities, and federally funded nonprofits means hiring is spread across sectors rather than concentrated in a single industry.
Which Alabama cities have the most program coordinator jobs?
Birmingham, Mobile, and Florence have the most program coordinator openings in Alabama. Birmingham leads because of UAB Health System and a dense cluster of nonprofits, while Huntsville's growth in federal defense contracting and aerospace drives demand for program coordinators managing government and research initiatives, and Montgomery's concentration of state agencies generates consistent openings in public-sector program administration.
Are there remote program coordinator jobs in Alabama?
Yes, and they are more common than in many comparable roles. About 14% of program coordinator openings tied to Alabama are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based, communication-heavy nature of most coordination work. Grant reporting, data management, and partner outreach functions are the portions most likely to be performed fully remotely, while roles requiring direct client contact or on-site program delivery are typically in-person.
How can I get hired as a program coordinator in Alabama with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for program assistant or case aide roles at Alabama's county health departments, community action agencies, or United Way-affiliated nonprofits, which regularly bring on candidates without direct coordinator experience. UAB and Auburn University run graduate assistantships and fellowship programs that count as hands-on coordination experience. Completing an AmeriCorps VISTA term in Alabama is another recognized credential that signals program management readiness to local employers. A Certified Associate in Project Management credential also strengthens applications considerably.
Where can I find and apply to program coordinator jobs in Alabama?
You can find and apply to program coordinator jobs in Alabama on Migrate Mate, which lists current Alabama openings across healthcare, government, nonprofit, and education sectors. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly through each listing.
