Program Coordinator Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a program coordinator in New York?
Most program coordinator roles in New York require a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as public administration, social work, public health, or education. New York does not issue a universal program coordinator license, but roles in specific sectors carry additional requirements: coordinators in healthcare settings may need alignment with New York State Department of Health standards, while those in child welfare programs typically must meet Office of Children and Family Services training requirements. A background in grant administration or nonprofit compliance strengthens most applications.
Which companies hire program coordinators in New York?
Employers hiring program coordinators in New York right now include City of New York, Columbia University, and K&A Engineering, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense nonprofit sector, large public university system, and extensive network of state and city agencies make it one of the broadest markets for program coordinators in the United States.
Which New York cities have the most program coordinator jobs?
New York, Syracuse, and Manhattan have the most program coordinator openings in New York. New York City accounts for the largest share, driven by its concentration of hospitals, universities, and nonprofit organizations, while Albany's openings reflect state government agencies and policy-focused nonprofits, and Buffalo's growth in healthcare and community development programs has steadily increased demand in western New York.
Are there remote program coordinator jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than many comparable roles, since much of the work involves communication, reporting, and data management rather than hands-on service delivery. About 13% of program coordinator openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with fully remote positions most common in grant administration, policy coordination, and education technology programs where in-person presence is not required.
How can I get hired as a program coordinator in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a program assistant or program associate role at a New York nonprofit, public health agency, or university, where you gain direct exposure to grant reporting and stakeholder coordination. Large employers such as NYC Health + Hospitals and CUNY offer structured entry-level program roles, and New York City government agencies frequently post junior coordinator positions through the city's civil service system. Building experience in adjacent roles such as case manager, administrative coordinator, or community outreach specialist, and completing a nonprofit management or public health certificate, gives candidates a clear edge.
Where can I find and apply to program coordinator jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to program coordinator jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring across the state. Find a role that fits and apply directly to the employer through the listing.
