Job Summary:

Location: Methodist Physicians Clinic - South

Address: 3353 L Street - Omaha, NE

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, Hours between 8am - 5pm

Sign on bonus of $2500!

Assists physicians in daily activities such as preparing patients for examination, phlebotomy, injections, assisting providers with entering medication, laboratory and radiology orders, scheduling diagnostic tests and making and receiving phone calls.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions

1. Registers patients for appointments by collecting and verifying patient demographics, insurance information, and other essential information to ensure accurate information is maintained for each patient.

2. Greets, directs, and assists patients with questions to facilitate patient care in prompt and polite manner.

3. Answers telephone to schedule appointments, take messages, direct calls to appropriate personnel, and handle other patient matters to ensure excellent customer service is provided within a timely manner and according to policies and procedures.

4. Prepares records for office visits by reviewing EMR (Electronic Medical Record)/chart contents to accelerate patient care.

5. Handles insurance inquiries by answering questions, assisting with referrals, and completing appropriate paperwork to ensure exam charges are submitted to insurance within a timely manner.

6. Processes and distributes written communication and documents (forms, letters, mail) accurately.

7. Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the patient to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the “Population Specific Criteria.”

8. Translates medical related information, issues, and concerns between the medical staff and the patient.

Job Requirements

Education

• Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Program required.

• Program must include an externship/preceptorship in a clinical setting OR must have 6 months of current experience working in the capacity of a medical assistant.

• OR

• Currently enrolled in a nursing program with half of nursing courses completed required.

• Transcripts must be provided indicating classes have been passed.

Experience

• 6 months previous medical assistant experience preferred.

License/Certifications

• Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
• Medication Aide Registry (MAR or MAR.40) required within 2 months of hire date.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

• Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures required.
• Skill to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks.
• Skill to proficiently type information into the computer to capture or detail information quickly.
• Ability to provide caring patient care services when talking with patients and their family members.
• Ability to critically listen to questions from patients and information from providers to convey information effectively.
• Ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve problems before they occur and avoid bigger problems in the future.
• Ability to problem solve during several daily activities which includes the ability to be flexible.
• Ability to learn and proficiently navigate through computer programs that contain patient information.
• Strong verbal communication skills for positive interaction with providers, staff and patients required.
• Able to follow written and verbal instructions/directions required.
• Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) understanding.
