Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking an energetic Head Athletic Coach to develop a competitive and representative team in the sport to which they are assigned. In doing so, our Coaches emphasize developmental ideals of teamwork, leadership, character, athletic skills, and wholesome attitudes amongst teammates and sport participants.
Essential Functions:
- Assists in maintaining high academic standards for all student-athletes.
- Assists the Athletic Director and Principal in the hiring and/or retention of Assistant Coaches.
- Directs, supervises, and evaluates regularly the performance of all Assistant Coaches of the respective sport.
- Works cooperatively with the Athletic Director to ensure proper insurance coverage for all athletes.
- Works cooperatively with other Head Athletic Coaches in order to operate a well-balanced athletic program.
- Directs the training, conditioning, and performance of the varsity athletic team and leads, supervises, and assists the Assistant Coaches in their efforts with the team assigned to them.
- Acts as a positive influence upon the behavior of members of his/her athletic staff and teams.
- Engages and directs the team at all varsity contests and to be present at as many junior varsity and freshman contests as possible; supervises athletes at invitational meets or postseason competitions.
- Advises the Athletic Director in the selection and performance evaluations of officials.
- Recommends to the Athletic Director the type and amount of equipment and supplies needed to conduct the sports program; Provides for the inventory and care of equipment.
- Advises the Athletic Director of the condition of athletic facilities and needs for their preparation and maintenance.
- Recommends to the Athletic Director and/or Principal the removal of athletes from the team(s) when training or eligibility regulations have not been met.
- Ensures that all athletes have undergone and passed medical examinations before the regular practice season begins.
- Organizes a system for encouraging students to try out for his/her team and to develop and recruit equipment manager(s), scorekeepers, statisticians, ball runners, etc., for all teams.
- Collects and maintains file records, statistics, new items, and photographs for all the athletic teams under his/her supervision.
- Observes sub-varsity practices and games.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- 18 years of age
- One (1) year of coaching experience in the sport assigned
- CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to enroll and successful complete a CPR and First Aid training course
Preferred
- 21 years of age
- Current teacher or classified employee of Spotsylvania County Public Schools
