Summary
The Audiologists is responsible for identifying, assessing, diagnosing, managing and interpreting test results related to disorders of human hearing, balance and other neural systems. This position provides audiological rehabilitation, selects, fits and dispenses amplification systems such as hearing aids and related devices. The Audiologists evaluates and manages children and adults with central auditory processing disorders, and supervises and completes tracking of newborn hearing screening programs.
Essential Job Functions:
- Obtains an accurate and concise patient history and any pertinent information for each patient.
- Performs accurate hearing evaluations using the appropriate diagnostic testing procedures. Performs rehabilitative services including counseling and teaching of basic effective communication techniques for individuals with hearing deficits.
- Demonstrates the ability to recognize normal and abnormal results, and properly interprets and explains these results. Demonstrates the ability to differentiate between organic and inorganic disabilities.
- Performs follow-up and reassesses the patient’s auditory acuity and hearing aid performance on a schedule commensurate with the nature and etiology of their hearing loss, their personal needs, and current habilitation guidelines.
- Documents results of audiological testing, along with clinical observations, in order to assist the physician with the final interpretation and management.
- Makes appropriate recommendations on hearing aids, ENT management, speech therapy, and other assistive devices.
- Educates patients, family and/or other appropriate parties to the purpose, procedure and proper use of the audiological testing and rehabilitation.
- Counsels the patient on amplification options and products.
- Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
