Audiologist Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a audiologist in California?
To work as an audiologist in California, you must obtain a license from the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board. The path requires earning a Doctor of Audiology degree from an accredited institution, completing a supervised clinical fellowship, and passing the national Praxis examination in audiology. After licensure, California also requires continuing education for renewal, and audiologists who dispense hearing aids must hold a separate hearing aid dispenser license.
How much do audiologists make in California?
Audiologists in California earn a median of about $114,910 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $62,090 for the lowest 10% to over $158,640 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire audiologists in California?
Employers hiring audiologists in California right now include University of California, San Francisco, CommonSpirit Health, and The Permanente Medical Group, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's large integrated health systems, veterans' care networks, and university medical centers account for a significant share of full-time audiologist positions across the state.
Which California cities have the most audiologist jobs?
San Francisco, Rancho Cordova, and San Diego have the most audiologist openings in California. Los Angeles dominates due to its density of hospital systems, specialty clinics, and VA facilities, while San Francisco draws volume from academic medical centers and technology-sector employee health programs, and San Diego benefits from a large military and veterans' population that sustains steady demand for audiology services.
Are there remote audiologist jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Audiology is a hands-on clinical discipline requiring in-person diagnostic testing, hearing aid fittings, and patient procedures, so most positions require on-site presence. About 6% of audiologist openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and these roles tend to be in tele-audiology consultation, care coordination, or clinical program management rather than direct patient assessment.
How can I get hired as a audiologist in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a clinical fellowship year, which California employers such as Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Health, and VA facilities regularly offer to new Doctor of Audiology graduates. Applying to fellowship postings at large health systems and federally qualified health centers gives candidates structured supervision and a direct pathway to permanent roles. Holding an active California audiology license and completing a clinical fellowship at a California institution are the credentials that most consistently move new graduates to the front of the hiring queue.
Where can I find and apply to audiologist jobs in California?
You can find and apply to audiologist jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Find roles that fit your experience and credentials and apply directly to the ones that match.
