Automation Specialist Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a automation specialist in Missouri?
Most automation specialists in Missouri start with an associate degree in industrial automation, electrical technology, or mechatronics from a Missouri community college or technical school, such as those in the Ozarks Technical Community College or St. Louis Community College systems. No state-issued license is required for the role, but earning credentials like the Certified Automation Professional designation through the International Society of Automation strengthens your candidacy with Missouri manufacturers and process facilities.
Which companies hire automation specialists in Missouri?
Employers hiring automation specialists in Missouri right now include Siemens, SunSource, and Grupo Bimbo, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of October 2026. Missouri's deep base of food and beverage, automotive, and industrial equipment manufacturers keeps demand for automation talent consistent across the state year-round.
Which Missouri cities have the most automation specialist jobs?
Kansas City, St. Louis, and Earth City account for the largest share of automation specialist openings in Missouri. Kansas City and St. Louis dominate because of their concentration of large manufacturing plants, distribution centers, and process industries, while smaller metros like Springfield attract openings tied to regional food processing and logistics operations anchored by employers with significant Missouri footprints.
Are there remote automation specialist jobs in Missouri?
Yes, but they're rare. Automation specialist work is inherently hands-on, requiring direct access to equipment, control panels, and production lines. About 0% of automation specialist openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of October 2026, and those positions typically involve off-site PLC programming, systems design, or project management rather than floor-level commissioning or maintenance.
How can I get hired as a automation specialist in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an industrial maintenance technician or controls technician role at a Missouri manufacturing facility, where hands-on PLC and equipment exposure is built on the job. Large Missouri employers like Emerson Electric and regional food processing plants regularly hire graduates of technical programs at Ranken Technical College or JCTC with little direct automation experience. Building a portfolio of PLC ladder logic projects and earning a foundational credential through Rockwell Automation's training programs gives candidates a clear edge when competing for their first role.
Where can I find and apply to automation specialist jobs in Missouri?
You can find and apply to automation specialist jobs in Missouri on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Missouri employers. Search for roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the positions that fit.
