- Write clean, well-tested code and participate in code reviews

- Experience deploying and running services on AWS
- Familiarity with ORMs (Prisma, TypeORM, Sequelize) and routing libraries
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, pragmatic environments and collaborating with distributed teams
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience working on AI / ML / LLM-based products- prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, vector databases, model integration, or agent frameworks
- AWS certifications, or deeper experience with services like Bedrock, SageMaker, Step Functions, or EventBridge
- Experience with serverless architectures

Back-End Engineer Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a back-end engineer in Indiana?
Back-end engineering in Indiana requires no state-issued license or registration. Most Indiana employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, though candidates with associate degrees or coding bootcamp credentials who can demonstrate strong portfolio work are regularly hired. Building projects on public repositories, contributing to open-source work, and earning cloud certifications from AWS or Google are the most concrete steps toward landing an Indiana back-end role.
Which companies hire back-end engineers in Indiana?
Indiana back-end engineer roles are posted by CVS Health and Entiovi Technologies Private Limited and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Indianapolis anchors most of the volume, driven by the corporate technology divisions of large insurance, logistics, and life sciences companies headquartered there.
Which Indiana cities have the most back-end engineer jobs?
Indianapolis, Bengal, and Fort Wayne lead Indiana for back-end engineer openings. Indianapolis dominates because it is home to the state's largest cluster of corporate technology departments, including those of major insurers, health systems, and logistics firms, while Fort Wayne and Bloomington draw openings from regional manufacturers and Indiana University's affiliated technology ecosystem respectively.
Are there remote back-end engineer jobs in Indiana?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 50% of back-end engineer openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the nature of a role that is almost entirely computer-based with no requirement for physical presence. API development, cloud infrastructure work, and database engineering are the sub-areas most commonly listed as fully remote by Indiana employers.
How can I get hired as a back-end engineer in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an associate or junior back-end developer role at one of Indiana's large corporate technology departments, such as those inside Indianapolis-based health insurance companies or logistics firms, which regularly onboard new graduates. Building a portfolio of documented projects on a public code repository matters more than years of experience at this stage. Candidates transitioning from front-end development, QA engineering, or database administration find these adjacent roles give them enough overlap to compete for junior back-end positions. An AWS or Azure cloud practitioner certification adds a concrete credential that Indiana hiring managers consistently recognize.
Where can I find and apply to back-end engineer jobs in Indiana?
You can find and apply to back-end engineer jobs in Indiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Indiana openings. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your experience and preferred location or work arrangement, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
