BMET Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a bmet in California?
Most California employers require at minimum an associate degree in biomedical technology, electronics, or a closely related engineering field, though a bachelor's degree is increasingly preferred for hospital system roles. California does not issue a state-specific bmet license, so the primary credential that signals readiness to California hiring managers is the Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician designation from AAMI. Candidates who combine that certification with hands-on experience from a California community college program or manufacturer training stand out.
Which companies hire bmets in California?
California bmet roles are posted by Longeviti, Sodexo, and Cherokee Federal and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. California's density of large integrated health systems, academic medical centers, and medical device manufacturers means opportunities extend well beyond the largest names into regional hospital groups and specialty clinics throughout the state.
Which California cities have the most bmet jobs?
Herlong, Anaheim, and Sacramento consistently post the most bmet openings in California. Los Angeles leads because of its concentration of large hospital systems and academic medical centers, San Francisco draws demand from UCSF and the broader Bay Area health network, and San Diego benefits from a strong cluster of medical device manufacturers alongside its major hospital campuses.
Are there remote bmet jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. About 50% of bmet openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, which reflects how hands-on the role is by nature since most equipment work requires physical presence on a hospital floor or in a clinical setting. The exceptions tend to be roles focused on software-based systems management, remote diagnostics support, or clinical informatics where the primary work is configuration and reporting rather than physical repairs.
How can I get hired as a bmet in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to biomedical equipment technician apprenticeships or entry-level technician associate roles posted by large California hospital systems such as Kaiser Permanente or Dignity Health, which run structured on-the-job training programs for candidates with an electronics or biomedical associate degree. California community colleges including Quanta College and Sacramento City College offer biomedical technology programs that feed directly into these entry roles. Candidates transitioning from electronics repair, IT field support, or medical device manufacturing often move laterally into bmet positions, and holding even a provisional CBET or a manufacturer-issued service certification gives a resume a clear edge.
Where can I find and apply to bmet jobs in California?
You can find and apply to bmet jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated in real time. Search the listings, find the roles that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
