As a GTG intern, you will be treated as a member of the team and contribute to meaningful work tied to real customer and business outcomes, not a separate side project. You will gain hands-on exposure to modern technology stacks, digital platforms, AI-enabled workflows, and enterprise systems while learning from experienced team members. Throughout the summer, you will also participate in networking, social, and professional development events and present the work you accomplished to senior leadership.

This role is ideal for someone who is curious about digital channels, comfortable exploring data, and excited to learn how analytics influences product, technology, and business strategy. Learn how a modern analytics team operates and how data influences digital product, customer experience, and technology decisions.
Demonstrate ownership, curiosity, adaptability, and critical thinking while contributing as part of the team.
Present your work, impact, and key learnings to technology leaders at the end of the internship.
You Have
Currently pursuing a degree in Analytics, Statistics, Finance, Business, Marketing, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field.

Tips for Your Business Intelligence Engineer Internship Search
Apply before fall semester ends for summer roles
Large employers at technology and finance companies open summer business intelligence engineer internship applications as early as August and close them by November. Smaller companies and co-op programs post closer to start dates, but waiting until spring means missing the most structured cohorts. Check postings as soon as the academic year begins.
Build a project portfolio before you send one application
Recruiting teams for business intelligence engineer internships have no work history to evaluate, so your portfolio is the interview before the interview. Publish two or three end-to-end projects on GitHub showing data modeling, SQL transformations, or dashboards built in Tableau or Power BI, and link them directly on your resume.
Work your campus network and apply directly at the same time
Campus career fairs surface structured internship programs tied to your university, and professors or career center staff often know which employers recruit from your school before roles post publicly. Apply directly to smaller companies running their own cohorts at the same time, the two channels reach different pools and the combined effort widens your options significantly.
Practice your technical screen out loud before the first interview
Business intelligence engineer intern screens typically involve a SQL or Python coding problem, sometimes paired with a short data modeling or analytical reasoning question. Practice by working through problems out loud and explaining your reasoning step by step, not just producing an answer, interviewers weigh how you think about the problem as much as the final query or solution.
Target structured rotational and university programs early
Larger companies run dedicated business intelligence engineer internship cohorts, including rotational programs that move you through pipeline, analytics, and reporting teams in a single summer. These programs are built for candidates new to the field, recruit months ahead of start dates, and fill fast. Identify the ones that match your background and apply in the first posting wave.
Set your work-type filter before you start searching
On-site roles are 0% of the business intelligence engineer internships listed here. Decide what you can actually commit to, on-site, hybrid, or remote, before you start applying, then filter by location and work type on Migrate Mate so you are reviewing only roles you can accept, not sorting through the full feed.
Business Intelligence Engineer Internships: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a business intelligence engineer internship?
Lead with coursework and personal projects rather than work history, hiring teams expect limited experience at the intern level. Build a portfolio with documented projects showing SQL queries, data models, or dashboards you built, with links to the work so recruiters have something concrete to assess. Combine direct applications with campus career fairs, where recruiters often move faster for students they meet in person.
Can a business intelligence engineer internship turn into a full-time job?
Many employers extend return offers to strong interns, but conversion is never guaranteed. What drives it for business intelligence engineer interns is consistent delivery on real work, the team's open headcount at the end of the summer, and how early you signal interest in returning. Perform well, ask about return-offer timelines mid-internship, and treat it as a long audition without banking on the outcome.
When should I apply for business intelligence engineer internships?
Earlier than most students expect. Large employers at major tech and finance companies recruit summer interns the preceding fall, with applications closing as early as October or November. Smaller companies, regional firms, and co-op programs post much closer to start dates, so openings appear year-round. Check postings regularly rather than waiting for a single application season.
Are business intelligence engineer internships paid?
Most professional business intelligence engineer internships in the U.S. are paid. Compensation varies by company size, industry, and location, and some programs also include housing stipends or relocation support. Where an employer discloses pay, it appears directly in the listing, so you can compare offers as you apply.
What should a business intelligence engineer internship resume include?
Lead with projects, not work history. Include two or three complete, documented projects showing the tools you used, SQL, Python, dbt, Tableau, Power BI, or whatever applies, and link directly to your code repository, published analyses, or dashboard. Add relevant coursework in data engineering, analytics, or statistics. Keep the whole thing to one page.
Are there remote business intelligence engineer internships?
Yes. Remote and hybrid roles make up 100% of the business intelligence engineer internship listings here, with the rest on-site. Remote cohorts fill quickly since they attract applicants from anywhere in the country, so apply early and use the work-type filter to surface them without sorting through every listing.
What is a business intelligence engineer rotational internship?
Rotational BI internships place you on two or three different data or analytics teams over a single summer, exposing you to pipeline engineering, reporting, and stakeholder-facing analytics in sequence. They are common at large technology and financial services companies, built specifically for people new to the field. These programs recruit early and are competitive, so identify them and apply in the first wave of postings.
Can international students get business intelligence engineer internships?
Yes. F-1 students can intern through CPT while enrolled or through OPT work authorization after finishing a degree, and the employer does not have to file anything for either, so many companies are open to international interns. Confirm your eligibility and timing with your university's international student office before accepting an offer.
