Certified Pharmacy Technician Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a certified pharmacy technician in New Jersey?
To work as a pharmacy technician in New Jersey, you must register with the New Jersey State Board of Pharmacy, which requires passing a board-approved national certification exam such as the PTCB or the NHA ExCPT. Applicants typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, and many employers prefer completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program. Registration must be maintained with annual renewal through the Board.
Which companies hire certified pharmacy technicians in New Jersey?
Employers hiring certified pharmacy technicians in New Jersey right now include Walgreens, Walmart, and Amazon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New Jersey's dense population of hospital systems, retail pharmacy locations, and specialty mail-order facilities keeps demand for registered technicians consistently high across the state.
Which New Jersey cities have the most certified pharmacy technician jobs?
Paramus, Whiting, and Barnegat have the most certified pharmacy technician openings in New Jersey. Newark anchors demand through its large hospital networks and high-volume retail corridors, while Trenton draws openings from state government-affiliated health facilities and surrounding suburban chains, and Camden benefits from its proximity to major health system campuses on both sides of the Delaware River.
Are there remote certified pharmacy technician jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, but they're rare. Most certified pharmacy technician work is hands-on and site-specific, requiring physical presence to fill, verify, and dispense medications. About 0% of certified pharmacy technician openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in prior authorization support, specialty pharmacy coordination, or telephonic medication counseling roles.
How can I get hired as a certified pharmacy technician in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to retail pharmacy chains such as CVS Health or Walgreens, which run structured training programs for candidates who hold or are actively pursuing New Jersey Board of Pharmacy registration. RWJBarnabas Health and Hackensack Meridian Health periodically offer pharmacy technician apprenticeships or on-the-job training tracks for new candidates. Completing an accredited technician training program and sitting for the PTCB exam before applying significantly strengthens an application even without paid experience.
Where can I find and apply to certified pharmacy technician jobs in New Jersey?
