How do I get an entry level chief development officer job?
Entry level chief development officer roles typically look for candidates with a background in nonprofit management, communications, or business development, along with demonstrated experience in fundraising, grant writing, or donor relations from internships, volunteer work, or campus organizations. Highlighting measurable results, such as funds raised or partnerships secured, gives candidates a clear edge over those who list duties alone.

Are there remote entry level chief development officer jobs?
Yes, though many openings at this level are still on-site given the relationship-building nature of the role. About 2% of entry level chief development officer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, so candidates open to flexible arrangements have real options alongside traditional office-based positions.
