Job Summary
The Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff serves as a member of the Office of the President and provides administrative, operational, and engagement support to the Chief of Staff and Vice President for Public Affairs & Strategic Initiatives. The position is responsible for managing the Chief of Staff’s calendar, travel, correspondence flow, briefing materials, and daily administrative operations while supporting key initiatives undertaken by the President’s Office.
The Special Assistant also serves as an operational representative of the President’s Office at meetings, events, and engagements throughout Maryland and the surrounding region. The position staffs the President at selected on-campus and off-campus events, assists with event advancement and logistics, and serves as a backup resource to the Executive Administrative Assistant to the President when needed.
Authority and Accountability
This position reports to the Chief of Staff and Vice President of Public Affairs & Strategic Initiatives. They will work closely with and may be assigned tasks from the Executive Administrative Assistant for the President, Deputy Chiefs of Staff and the Public Affairs Coordinator. This position will not have any direct reports.
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication abilities.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in higher education, government, public affairs, communications, event management, executive support, or related fields.
- Experience coordinating meetings, events, travel, or executive schedules.
- Experience interacting with senior leaders, elected officials, donors, or community stakeholders.

The position is a full-time, non-exempt state role with comprehensive benefits.
