Civil Engineer Jobs in Jacksonville: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a civil engineer job in Jacksonville?
Focus your search on the sectors driving Jacksonville's growth: transportation infrastructure, stormwater and coastal resilience, and land development tied to the city's rapid residential expansion on the Southside and in the St. Johns County corridor. Municipal agencies, port authorities, and mid-size engineering and consulting firms hire consistently here. Candidates with FDOT project experience or familiarity with coastal floodplain regulations stand out in this market.
Which companies hire civil engineers in Jacksonville?
Employers hiring civil engineers in Jacksonville right now include BRS, Kimley-Horn, and RQ Construction, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Jacksonville's hiring mix leans toward regional engineering consultancies, public-sector agencies, and contractors tied to JEA, FDOT District 2, and the Jacksonville Transportation Authority.
Are there remote civil engineer jobs in Jacksonville?
Yes, but only for select functions. Civil engineering is largely field-dependent, so fully remote roles are uncommon, while design, analysis, and project coordination work is increasingly hybrid. About 33% of civil engineer openings tied to Jacksonville are remote or hybrid as of September 2026. Drainage modeling, CAD drafting, and environmental review tasks are the roles most likely to carry a hybrid or partial-remote arrangement locally.
How can I get a civil engineer job in Jacksonville with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Jacksonville is through municipal or county public works programs, which regularly hire EIT-eligible graduates for inspection and design support roles. JEA and the City of Jacksonville's Public Works Department are consistent entry-level employers. Lateral moves into construction management or land development with a local residential builder can also open doors, particularly on the Northside and Southside where permitting activity is heaviest.
Which industries hire the most civil engineers in Jacksonville?
Jacksonville civil engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Manufacturing, and Food & Beverage, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Jacksonville's role as a major logistics hub, its large military installation footprint at NAS Jacksonville and Blount Island, and its ongoing coastal infrastructure investment keep demand high across these sectors.
