Overview
The Department of Nursing, in the new School of Nursing and Health Sciences (SNHS) at Providence College, (also referred to as “the College” or “PC”), is excited to offer a unique full time faculty role as a clinical instructor. We are seeking applicants with clinical teaching experience and clinical practice experience in the medical/surgical, psychiatric/mental health, and maternal child nursing specialties. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate nursing students in the clinical component of their specialty nursing course. The semester workload will be an average of three (3) clinical groups each semester at area hospitals/health centers. As part of our joint appointment model, clinical appointments can be secured for successful candidates at one of our many practice partner settings. Successful candidates will also participate in the department’s governance as a member of the Providence College Nursing Faculty Committee and will maintain an active Rhode Island nursing license and professional practice within the medical surgical nursing specialty.
This is an exciting and historic opportunity to join PC’s newly established School of Nursing and Health Sciences as it shapes an innovative, interdisciplinary curriculum for the next generation of students entering nursing and other health professions. The 153,000 sq. ft state-of-the-art Ben Mondor Center for Nursing and Health Sciences houses the School of Nursing and Health Sciences’ existing and future undergraduate and graduate programs. This one-of-a-kind facility opened in January 2025 and features the latest classroom design and technologies and showcases expansive clinical simulation and research facilities. A student career education and advising center, along with conference and meeting space, is included as part of the inspiring resources intended for the next generation of healthcare providers, faculty, and staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
These four nursing clinical faculty positions will report to the Chair of the Department of Nursing. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the clinical setting, such as hospitals or local health care facilities, at the undergraduate level. The candidate will be responsible for the development, implementation and assessment of curriculum, student advising, and service to the college as a full-time faculty member.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Candidates with an earned masters or doctoral degree in nursing and certification or willingness to become certified in their specialty are strongly encouraged to apply. An active unencumbered license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Rhode Island or eligibility to apply for such, minimum of five years of professional nursing clinical experience in their specialty, knowledge and skills related to effective teaching methodology, and certification as a Certified Academic Clinical Nurse Educator (CNEcl) or willing to obtain will be looked upon favorably by the search committee. Previous experience teaching clinical nursing in an undergraduate nursing program and supervising students during clinical rotations in a hospital or health care setting is strongly preferred.
