Clinical Social Worker Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a clinical social worker in Maryland?
To become a clinical social worker in Maryland, you must earn a Master of Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program, complete the required supervised hours, and obtain licensure through the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners. Maryland's clinical-level license is the LCSW-C, which requires passing the ASWB Clinical examination. Candidates typically begin as Licensed Graduate Social Workers (LGSW) while accumulating supervised post-graduate hours before sitting for the clinical exam.
Which companies hire clinical social workers in Maryland?
Maryland clinical social worker roles are posted by LifeStance Health, Thriveworks, and University of Maryland Medical System and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Maryland's concentration of large hospital systems, federally qualified health centers, and state human services agencies means consistent openings exist across both urban Baltimore and suburban Washington D.C.-area counties.
Which Maryland cities have the most clinical social worker jobs?
Baltimore, Annapolis, and Germantown have the most clinical social worker openings in Maryland. Baltimore dominates due to its dense network of hospital systems, behavioral health nonprofits, and state agency offices, while the Montgomery and Prince George's County suburbs draw volume from proximity to federal health programs and large integrated health systems serving the D.C. metropolitan area.
Are there remote clinical social worker jobs in Maryland?
Yes, but they are more limited than in purely desk-based fields, since many clinical social worker roles involve in-person assessments, crisis response, or on-site case management. About 88% of clinical social worker openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting growing telehealth adoption. Outpatient therapy, care coordination, and utilization review positions are the most likely to offer remote or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a clinical social worker in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for Licensed Graduate Social Worker positions, which Maryland allows while you complete supervised post-graduate hours toward full clinical licensure. Large Maryland employers such as Johns Hopkins Health System, University of Maryland Medical System, and the Maryland Department of Human Services regularly hire new MSW graduates into structured residency or training cohort programs. Roles in case management, crisis stabilization, and school-based social work often welcome candidates transitioning from adjacent positions such as psychiatric rehabilitation specialist or community health worker, and holding an active LGSW registration from the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners gives your application a clear advantage.
Where can I find and apply to clinical social worker jobs in Maryland?
You can find and apply to clinical social worker jobs in Maryland on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your licensure level, specialization, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
