Clinical Social Worker Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a clinical social worker in Texas?
To become a clinical social worker in Texas, you must earn an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program, accumulate supervised post-graduate clinical hours, and pass the ASWB Clinical exam. Licensure is issued by the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners as an LCSW. Texas requires a supervised practice period under a Licensed Master Social Worker supervisor before you are eligible to sit for the clinical-level exam.
Which companies hire clinical social workers in Texas?
Employers hiring clinical social workers in Texas right now include LifeStance Health, MYCHN, and Thriveworks, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Texas's large integrated health systems, VA medical centers, and county-level community mental health authorities account for a significant share of consistent, full-time openings across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most clinical social worker jobs?
San Antonio, Houston, and Katy have the most clinical social worker openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas generate the most volume due to their large hospital systems, VA facilities, and community mental health networks, while San Antonio's strong military and veterans services sector drives sustained demand for clinical roles in that metro.
Are there remote clinical social worker jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they are more limited than in purely desk-based fields because clinical social work often involves in-person assessment, crisis intervention, and court-related services. About 76% of clinical social worker openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, concentrated mainly in telehealth therapy, case management, and utilization review roles that do not require on-site client contact.
How can I get hired as a clinical social worker in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a position as a Licensed Master Social Worker while completing your supervised hours toward LCSW licensure. Large Texas employers such as UT Health and Texas Health Resources regularly hire MSW graduates into structured clinical training roles. Lateral moves from case manager, mental health technician, or crisis counselor positions are common ways to build the clinical hours required for licensure, and having completed a practicum in a Texas community mental health center strengthens your application considerably.
Where can I find and apply to clinical social worker jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to clinical social worker jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas employers. Find roles that fit your credentials and experience level and apply directly from the listing.
