Commissioning Manager Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a commissioning manager in Massachusetts?
Most commissioning managers in Massachusetts enter through an engineering or construction background, typically holding a degree in mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering. Massachusetts does not issue a state-specific commissioning license, but the industry widely recognizes credentials such as the Certified Commissioning Professional from AABC or the Building Commissioning Association certification. Employers in the Boston life sciences corridor increasingly expect both field experience and documented commissioning authority training before promoting candidates into manager roles.
How much do commissioning managers make in Massachusetts?
Commissioning managers in Massachusetts earn a median of about $201,430 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $137,750 for the lowest 10% to over $286,410 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire commissioning managers in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring commissioning managers in Massachusetts right now include Westinghouse Electric Company, CoreSite, and Building Evolution Corporation, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of October 2026. Massachusetts's dense concentration of pharmaceutical manufacturing, hospital construction, and commercial real estate development keeps demand for experienced commissioning managers consistent across the state year-round.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most commissioning manager jobs?
Middlesex County, Massachusetts, and Worcester account for the most commissioning manager openings in Massachusetts. Boston and Cambridge drive the largest share of demand through ongoing hospital expansions, university laboratory construction, and life sciences campuses, while Worcester supports a growing industrial and healthcare facility base that consistently requires building systems commissioning expertise.
Are there remote commissioning manager jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, but they're rare. Commissioning managers are fundamentally on-site roles requiring physical inspection, functional performance testing, and direct coordination with contractors, so most positions require regular presence at the job site. About 50% of commissioning manager openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of October 2026, and those openings typically involve project management oversight or documentation review rather than hands-on field commissioning work.
How can I get hired as a commissioning manager in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a commissioning engineer or field technician role at a Massachusetts-based engineering firm or building systems contractor. Companies such as large mechanical and electrical subcontractors working on Boston-area hospital and lab projects regularly hire junior commissioning engineers who train under certified leads. Moving from an HVAC controls technician, project engineer, or facilities engineer role is a common lateral step. Pursuing the Building Commissioning Association associate credential early strengthens candidacy significantly for candidates without a full project portfolio.
Where can I find and apply to commissioning manager jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to commissioning manager jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current Massachusetts openings. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your experience and target location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
