Commissioning Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a commissioning manager in Texas?
Most commissioning managers in Texas start with a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, or systems engineering, then build experience as a commissioning engineer or project engineer on energy, industrial, or construction projects. Texas does not require a state-issued license specific to commissioning management, but a Professional Engineer license issued by the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors strengthens candidacy for senior roles, especially on public-sector or complex regulated facilities.
How much do commissioning managers make in Texas?
Commissioning managers in Texas earn a median of about $171,370 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $120,460 for the lowest 10% to over $277,790 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire commissioning managers in Texas?
Employers hiring commissioning managers in Texas right now include TW Constructors, Fluor, and Kiewit Corporation, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of refineries, LNG export terminals, petrochemical complexes, and large commercial construction projects means engineering, procurement, and construction firms alongside major owner-operators are the most consistent sources of openings.
Which Texas cities have the most commissioning manager jobs?
The cities with the most commissioning manager openings in Texas are Houston, Haskell, and Temple. Houston dominates due to its dense cluster of refineries, petrochemical plants, and energy infrastructure where facility startups and turnarounds create steady demand, while San Antonio and Dallas-Fort Worth draw openings through large commercial construction, data center buildouts, and industrial automation projects anchored by major contractors and technology firms.
Are there remote commissioning manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Commissioning management is fundamentally hands-on work tied to physical systems, equipment startups, and on-site verification, so fully remote roles are uncommon. About 9% of commissioning manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to involve pre-commissioning planning, documentation review, or program oversight rather than field execution.
How can I get hired as a commissioning manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a commissioning engineer or field engineer on energy or industrial projects with large Texas-based engineering and construction firms such as Bechtel, Fluor, or Wood, which regularly hire early-career engineers into structured project roles. Moving laterally from instrumentation technician, electrical engineer, or controls engineer positions is common and gives candidates hands-on system knowledge that hiring teams value. Pursuing a Professional Engineer license from the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors early in your career provides a concrete credential that accelerates advancement into management responsibilities.
Where can I find and apply to commissioning manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to commissioning manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across energy, industrial, construction, and automation sectors. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to the employers posting them.
