Pilot Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pilot in Texas?
Becoming a pilot in Texas follows the FAA certification path, as aviation licensing is federally regulated with no separate Texas state license required. You begin with a Private Pilot Certificate, then build hours toward a Commercial Pilot Certificate with an instrument rating, and ultimately an Airline Transport Pilot certificate for airline careers. Texas has numerous FAA-approved flight schools and Part 141 training programs at institutions across Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio where you can complete structured training.
Which companies hire pilots in Texas?
Employers hiring pilots in Texas right now include Life Time, Pilot Travel Centers, and PHI Air Medical, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas serves as a major hub state with airline headquarters, large cargo operations, and a dense concentration of corporate flight departments that create consistent demand throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most pilot jobs?
Houston, Austin, and Midland have the most pilot openings in Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth leads because American Airlines and Southwest Airlines are headquartered there and operate some of their largest crew bases from DFW International and Dallas Love Field, while Houston's volume reflects United Airlines' major hub at George Bush Intercontinental and a strong corporate and cargo aviation sector, and San Antonio supports military-affiliated contract and training flight operations.
Are there remote pilot jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 3% of pilot openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on, aircraft-based nature of most flying roles. The exceptions tend to be flight operations management, dispatcher-adjacent coordination roles, or simulator and ground instruction positions where some administrative work can be performed off-site.
How can I get hired as a pilot in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a regional airline as a first officer, which is how most commercial pilots in Texas build the hours and type ratings needed for major carrier positions. Regional carriers operating in Texas, including those feeding American and United hubs, hire pilots at the FAA minimums for Part 121 operations and provide type rating training. Flight instructing at one of the many Part 141 or Part 61 schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth or Houston areas is another proven route to build hours while earning income, and a completed aviation degree from a Texas university strengthens applications considerably.
Where can I find and apply to pilot jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to pilot jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Find roles that match your certificate level, aircraft experience, and preferred base, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
