Security Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security manager in Texas?
The foundational requirement in Texas is an active Private Security license through the Texas Department of Public Safety, which regulates security personnel and management-level roles at licensed companies. Most employers also expect several years of field security or law enforcement experience before moving into management. A degree in criminal justice or security management strengthens candidacy, and professional certifications like the Certified Protection Professional designation are widely recognized by Texas hiring managers.
How much do security managers make in Texas?
Security managers in Texas earn a median of about $99,430 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $56,960 for the lowest 10% to over $173,460 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security managers in Texas?
Employers hiring security managers in Texas right now include Apple, Boston Consulting, and Fidelity Investments, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's mix of energy infrastructure, defense contractors, large healthcare systems, and corporate headquarters creates consistent demand for security management across sectors statewide.
Which Texas cities have the most security manager jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Dallas have the most security manager openings in Texas. Houston leads due to its concentration of energy companies, port operations, and petrochemical facilities that require layered security programs, while Dallas draws demand from Fortune 500 headquarters and major logistics hubs, and San Antonio's significant military installations and growing healthcare sector drive steady hiring there.
Are there remote security manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're uncommon. Security manager roles are inherently tied to physical sites, personnel oversight, and on-the-ground incident response, which limits full remote arrangements. About 15% of security manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve enterprise security program oversight, policy development, or vendor management rather than direct site operations.
How can I get hired as a security manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a licensed security officer or shift supervisor under a Texas-licensed security company, then building toward management. Large Texas employers like hospital systems such as HCA Houston Healthcare and corporate campuses in the Dallas area often hire security coordinators or assistant managers from the officer ranks. Obtaining your Texas Private Security license early and pursuing a Certified Protection Professional credential once eligible signals readiness for management roles to Texas hiring teams.
Where can I find and apply to security manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to security manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas employers and locations. Find roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly to each one.
