Communications Associate Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a communications associate in New York?
Communications associate roles in New York do not require a state-issued license, so the path runs through education and portfolio. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a closely related field. New York hiring managers consistently favor candidates who can show writing samples, press clips, or campaign work alongside their degree, and internships with New York media outlets, agencies, or corporate communications teams carry significant weight at the entry level.
Which companies hire communications associates in New York?
Employers hiring communications associates in New York right now include HealixGlobal, The New York Times, and The Ogilvy Group, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense concentration of media conglomerates, financial firms, and large nonprofit institutions makes it one of the most varied markets in the country for communications hiring.
Which New York cities have the most communications associate jobs?
New York, New York City, and Brooklyn have the most communications associate openings in New York. New York City accounts for the bulk of listings because of its concentration of corporate headquarters, financial institutions, media companies, and major nonprofits, while Albany drives demand through state government agencies and advocacy organizations, and Buffalo reflects growing regional corporate and healthcare communications needs.
Are there remote communications associate jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 25% of communications associate openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves writing, editing, and digital coordination that does not require physical presence. The roles most commonly offered remotely are content development and digital communications, while positions requiring regular media briefings or executive interaction tend to be hybrid or on-site.
How can I get hired as a communications associate in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an internship or fellowship with a New York-based organization followed by a transition into a coordinator or junior associate role. Large New York employers such as city agencies, major hospital systems, and financial institutions regularly run structured communications internship programs for recent graduates. Candidates who move laterally from editorial assistant, marketing coordinator, or public affairs assistant roles are commonly considered, and a polished writing portfolio is the single credential that most consistently opens doors in lieu of direct experience.
Where can I find and apply to communications associate jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to communications associate jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Find a role that fits and apply directly from the listing.
