Certify Your Credentials Before Applying
ABB's manufacturing sites operate under strict safety and compliance standards, so having a state journeyman or master electrician license before you apply significantly strengthens your candidacy. Unlicensed applicants face longer onboarding delays that can complicate visa timelines.
Target ABB's Industrial Automation Divisions First
ABB's Electrification and Motion divisions consistently post Electrician openings tied to large-scale facility projects. Focusing your applications there puts you in front of hiring managers who regularly work with international hires and understand sponsorship requirements.
Search Open Electrician Roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter for Electrician positions at ABB that are open to visa sponsorship. The platform surfaces roles by visa type, saving you from applying to positions where sponsorship isn't on the table.
Understand the H-1B Cap and ABB's Filing Window
H-1B registrations open each March for an October 1 start date. If ABB extends you an offer in late spring, your earliest H-1B start is the following October, so plan for a potential gap period and clarify bridge options like OPT or cap-exempt pathways with your recruiter.
Ask Recruiters About the PERM Timeline Early
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, ABB must complete a PERM labor certification through DOL before filing your immigrant petition. PERM can take 12 to 18 months or longer, so raising this in the offer stage gives you a realistic picture of your Green Card timeline.
Document Industrial Electrical Experience in Detail
ABB's petitions for Electrician roles often hinge on demonstrating specialty occupation criteria to USCIS. Organize your work history around specific systems you've worked on, such as PLCs, switchgear, or high-voltage distribution, rather than listing general electrical duties.

Find Electrician at ABB JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does ABB sponsor H-1B visas for Electricians?
Yes, ABB sponsors H-1B visas for Electrician roles, particularly in its manufacturing and industrial automation facilities across the U.S. Sponsorship is typically tied to roles requiring specialized technical skills. Because H-1B is subject to the annual cap and lottery, timing your application and offer acceptance around the March registration window is critical to avoid a year-long delay.
How do I apply for Electrician jobs at ABB?
You can find Electrician openings at ABB through its careers portal, where postings list location, division, and required qualifications. Migrate Mate also aggregates ABB's visa-sponsorship-eligible roles so you can filter specifically for Electrician positions open to international candidates. When applying, tailor your resume to highlight industrial electrical systems relevant to ABB's product lines, such as drives, motors, or switchgear.
Which visa types does ABB commonly use for Electrician roles?
ABB sponsors both nonimmigrant and immigrant visa pathways for Electricians. The H-1B is the most common nonimmigrant route, used for specialty occupation roles requiring at least a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. For longer-term employment, ABB pursues EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process with the Department of Labor.
What qualifications does ABB expect for sponsored Electrician positions?
ABB generally looks for candidates with a relevant electrical engineering degree or a combination of technical training and demonstrated industrial experience. State licensure, such as a journeyman electrician credential, is often required or strongly preferred. Hands-on experience with industrial automation equipment, high-voltage systems, or PLC programming is particularly valued across ABB's Electrification and Motion business divisions.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an ABB Electrician role?
For H-1B, expect four to six months from petition filing to approval if ABB files with standard processing, or two to three weeks with premium processing through USCIS. For an employment-based Green Card, the PERM stage alone typically takes 12 to 18 months, followed by I-140 petition filing and, depending on your country of birth and priority date, potentially years in the visa backlog.
