Certify Electrical Credentials Before Applying
ABB repair roles often require documented competency in electrical or mechanical systems. Get any foreign trade certifications evaluated by a credential assessment service so your application clears ABB's technical screening before a recruiter even reviews your visa situation.
Target ABB's Service Division Openings Specifically
ABB's field service and repair teams operate separately from its manufacturing floor roles. Positions posted under Service Operations or Drive Service Centers tend to have more established sponsorship workflows than general production postings, so filter your search accordingly.
Search ABB Repair Technician Roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship history, so you can surface ABB Repair Technician openings that are realistically open to sponsored candidates rather than sifting through listings with no sponsorship signal.
Clarify Your Work Authorization Status Early
During interviews, confirm whether the role requires immediate authorization or if ABB will file an H-1B petition on your behalf. Manufacturing employers sometimes assume candidates are already work-authorized, so raising this in the second-round conversation prevents late-stage surprises.
Understand the H-1B Cap Timeline for Your Start Date
H-1B petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start under the annual cap. If ABB extends an offer outside that window, ask whether they can file for the next cycle or explore cap-exempt alternatives while you remain in valid status.
Request PERM Details If You Want Permanent Residency
ABB sponsors EB-category Green Cards for skilled roles, but PERM labor certification through DOL adds significant lead time. Ask your ABB recruiter or HR contact whether the Repair Technician position qualifies for employer-sponsored permanent residency and what the typical internal timeline looks like.

Find Repair Technician at ABB JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does ABB sponsor H-1B visas for Repair Technicians?
Yes, ABB sponsors H-1B visas for Repair Technician roles. These positions typically qualify as specialty occupations when the role requires a specific technical or engineering background. ABB files petitions through the standard USCIS cap process, so timing your offer to align with the April filing window matters if you need a new H-1B rather than a transfer.
How do I apply for Repair Technician jobs at ABB?
Apply directly through ABB's careers portal or find open Repair Technician roles on Migrate Mate, which surfaces positions with a verified sponsorship track record. When applying, tailor your resume to highlight hands-on experience with the specific equipment ABB services, such as drives, motors, or robotics systems, since generic maintenance experience is less compelling than equipment-specific competency.
Which visa types does ABB commonly use for Repair Technician roles?
ABB primarily uses the H-1B for skilled Repair Technicians in roles that meet the specialty occupation standard. For candidates seeking permanent residency, ABB has filed EB-2 and EB-3 petitions for technical positions, with EB-3 being more common for skilled trade and maintenance roles. The right pathway depends on your education, experience level, and the specific position.
What qualifications does ABB expect for sponsored Repair Technician positions?
ABB generally looks for candidates with a relevant associate or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a related technical field, combined with hands-on repair experience on industrial systems. Certifications in PLCs, variable frequency drives, or ABB-specific product lines strengthen your profile. For H-1B eligibility, the role needs to require at least a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a specific specialty.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take if ABB offers me a Repair Technician role?
If ABB files an H-1B on your behalf under the annual cap, expect a process that starts with an April lottery and results in an October 1 start date at the earliest. Premium processing through USCIS can reduce adjudication time to around 15 business days once your petition is selected. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship runs on a separate, longer timeline determined by DOL processing and visa availability.
